Typical bpm for Drum'n'Bass is around 175bpm - I think.

But can be higher or lower depending on the stlye/sub genre of your tune and also sometimes on the samples/breaks you use.

It's also good to give your tunes lots of variations rather than keeping them monotone and repetitive. - Drum'n'Bass is about being creative and spontaneous imo.

You'll hear that on hear quite a bit I should think as everyone has their IMO's about everything. - In my opinion. - HaHa.

Basically Drum'n'Bass comes down to what sounds good in your opinion as you could take elements from hardcore, techno tracks and combine them with a fast tempo and some dnb breaks and rools and it can still be classed as a DnB track.

Reece is quite a popular bass, synth played in Drum'n'Bass.

There's plenty of threads on here or on the site I appointed you to help you get started in producing Drum'n'Bass.

Check out the sample packs on here for a quick start !!!

Also this thread is where you'll find all the stuff you will need to get started !

FAQ / Knowledge Base (lots of links to production related information) - Faq starter thread !!!

Very good stuff on there !
