Hey man.
I'm really digging this track. The gated synths in the intro brought a big smile to my face. Trancey, yes, but nothing wrong with combining styles
Interesting choice of chord progression, a refereshing original take. Your muscial background is really showing through. I love the pads sitting behind the synth as well, very epic.
The drop at 0:44 I thoiught came a bit abruptly although the beats are nice and crisp. I love the filtered half time break after it, although I might have let the amen run a bit longer. One thing I noticed about the beats- the syncopated beat mashups for fills work at first but become a bit obvious, it would be nice to throw in some other drum sounds- maybe open high hats, reverse breaks, kick rolls etc to add some more spice.
Half time at 2:40 is very satisfying again.
Overall I'm very impressed by this tune. I could see how this came after "The Music Box" but everything's come a long way since its predecessor. Crisp, clean mix, fresh ideas, you've really outdone yourself on this one

Thanks Minas! That's a great review, and all the things you've pointed out are the things I don't really like about it too. One thing I've learnt though is that if you make something too perfect, then it becomes flat... I think I will add in some more drums sounds and variation in the breakdown (where the comb-filtered drums run). I like your advice and it confirms for me what I thought may be lacking. As you probably already know, when you hear something yourself 1000 times over you become accustomed to it... so it's really important to have opinions on your work!
Thanks again!!!

All I can say is that i really liked it!!
..nope I'm sure I can say more lol. The subdued epicness is great, it's got that ambient yet very much alive feel. I think that it was mainly the chord progression I loved, not so keen on the trancy synth, but thats personal preference and nitpicking as it works well in this context. The drums are really really groovin' especially the half time running up to the drop.. seamless transitions between the two patterns, could do with some more hi-freq sheen and shimmer to liven the break up tho.
