Please check out my new track 'Violince' and post your comments here!
A bit experimental - orchestra sounds + non orchestra beat and bass.
This is my second track. And likely the last because i dislike my sound quality which i can't improve without studio monitors.
Anyway all opinions are welcome!
Why can't you improve your sound quality without monitors !?
I haven't got any monitors either - yet - but sound quality is all down to the quality of any samples you use, the mixing, eQ'n and mastering.
Knowledge of which sounds are clashing at what frequencies etc ...
Knowing when to cut or boost certain frequencies.
Just lowering the volume on certain instruments can make your mix sound cleaner by giving more headroom ...
Same goes for cutting out unnecessary low and high frequencies that are also taking up overall space.
Doing things like this allows the other instruments to come through sounding nice and clear.
If you can't afford monitors then maybe you could get some monitor headphones instead !?
Quite a few people on here mix through headphones.
Also if you are using 5.1 sound system then it's best to mixdown in 2.1.

0ok.
I'm bored.
The violins were a nice little touch ...
But I felt the tune lacked synchronicity.
Especially when you introduce the orchestral gasm back into the tune near the end it doesn't flow with the beat IMO.
I have cheapy "dj" headphones Sennheiser hd 215, but what sounds good in them often sounds shitty on my musical center/mp3 player. Also i cant assess dynamics in headphones, because they dont give natural reverb, i dont know if my headphones sound flat and don't over or downgain some freq, i dont trust them. Ofcourse i separate my instruments by frequencies, bass/drums/synts, all of which are also splitted more deeper. But its impossible to control the whole track only by numbers. ...I think this discussion is more suitable for producing/mastering forum.

Yep, i now see unsynchronized things too...Its because 1/4* filter on viola which somehow several times plays differently from bassline made in fxpansion guru.
Thanks for the reply

Intro - lovin the orchestral & electronic mix, the drums are slightly boring and sound a bit too tinny for too long but it does the job.
Drop - too right is this experimental! reminds me alot of Venetian Snares and i love the incorporation fo glitch elements. The bass the comes in quietly at around 2 mins could be louder & a more major point of the song as without it the song seems generally bass lacking.
Overall - Good song with some only slight issue, generally could do with a bit more variation as there is not much too listen to here apart from some orchestral sounds a glitchy beat. A breakdown wouldnt go amiss here.
For a second track this is quite good! The intro felt a little sparse and repetitive at points, but the drop was clean, a good thing. I can see that you probably enjoy Spektrum and such judging by the the samples, feel, and layout of the song. It hits quite hard, and the beat switch up around 1:44 is nice. You might need to intensify your bass a bit more but hey, don't we all (been working on that sub for a bloody week and a half now, argh). Nice second drop, but the piece exits too quickly, leaving me feeling that it's unfinished. The orchestral touch is quite nice by the way, of course I'm a sucker for anything that has strings in it. The beat programming is clean, interesting, and quite frankly, astounding for a second track. Keep it up, I want to hear more!
this is a blinder of a tune! the ideas in this one are good, real good, good edits, lovely little glitches interspersed in there too. i really like what u done.
the downfall tho is the sound quality as u mentioned. once u fixed it up tho i would consider even paying for this one.
yeh about the headphones - i got exactly the same pair - so does Tomos aswell - if u hear his tracks they r fukin excellent for the sound quality. mind u when i got em, they took a little while to get used to. one tip i gotta say for producing on any speakers or headphones is to "compare it over n over". find a good quality tune which has good eqing in roughly the same style as your tune and then play ur tune, pause, play the other tune, pause and then think whats different. mixing them together should b saved for later on when ur satisfied with the eqin.
anyways, dont give up on the production just cos u aint got super duper overpriced shitty speakers (NS10s) - keep at it cos ur tunes r good
peace

Agree with Shinyuri's comments here - especially about my tunes sounding 'fucking excellent'.
Not a truer word that lad has ever spoken.
Seriously tho, if this is your second tune, you've got tonnes and tonnes of potential. Sound quality obviously needs some work. It's quite noisy at times, especially with the beats and the strings both being in the mid-range section. They do clash quite a bit and they do lose clarity as a result. I'd think about either lower the strings or lowering the sound of the beats (probably the latter).
Love the string vibes tho and the melodies are excellent. Did you write those yourself? If you did, well done mate.
You should deffo check XTensionTrigger's stuff on here. It's kinda on the same vibe as this, you'd love it.
The middle section is a little messy I reckon. Some of the changes and bass sounds don't quite fit.
Overall tho, a very good effort mate.

drums dont sound phat enough, really mid-range and tinny, some of the automation on em too sounds a little off, kinda doesn't flow right. way too much mid range in the drums, i tend to do it a lot too cuz after mixing the same track for a while your ears get tired and you start to become more sensitive to high/ low frequencies, take a break during mixing and rest your ears.
bassline gets a bit repititive after a while, that could use switching up occasionaly.
things jus seem to sounds really messy when the drums, bass and strings are all playing, its all muddy and eveyrthing is clashing with each other.
strings sound nice tho, like something from pyscho but the mixdown is really noisy, mid-range and highs need toning down a lot, some nice warmth on sub tho.
not bad overall but needs a lot of work.
