Please check out my new track 'Requiem' and post your comments here!
For me this tune was a little evidence that you learn a lot by reading through forum post and by getting good criticism on tunes you’ve posted.
In the past months I learned a lot about eqing and sound creation. I’m far away from being good, but I got a bit better I think. So thank y’all & big up!!!
The tune: I still need some help with equing! I hear that there’s something wrong but haven’t figured out yet how to fix it (I think the orchestral chords are fucking up the mix slightly but not sure).
Melody is from Requiem of a Dream (movie). Messed with it and gave it a little personal touch.
Enjoy!

This is damn cool for someone who is claiming to be far from good :-) love the idea of the end of the buildup, overall sound is really well done.
I learned two important rules about EQing:
- if it sounds good, don't start messing with EQing, keep it like it is.
- use good sounds, you can't polish a turd.
No matter what you think, you succeeded, sound quality is really great imo.

nice mix, the filtered beat does sound awsome at the start like.
the build up it proper unusal but it work realy well.
the beat is cool when it kick in too, intersting choise of samples to use tho, i expected the snare to be alot bigger, but it work great how it if.
agen the filterd drum sound damn class.
kick ass track imo but it could be a bit longer

Hey man,
Very kickin' track, I love what I'm hearing so far.
I thing the opening synth may be a little too ravey, but that's a personal preference.
When the string pads come in, I think they would benefit from a couple more soft layers to spread out the chord voices and fill out the sound.
Love the hip hop beat in the intro but you may want to bring the drums up a bit. If you have a little more bass in the intro it will blend better at 1:30 when the very low bass comes in.
Filtered break is great.
1:40- Holy shit! Awesome montage of sound effect you have! A little touch of Aphex, pure class!
After the drop, I'm really enjoying the bass. Nice filtering.
While listening, I thought a half time time breakdown would be cool, and there it is. The piano is really beautiful and the beat is tight. Totally exceeded my expectations.
I think the tune would benefit from another build out of the half time section and into a fully epic conclusion, as the original piece is very epic indeed. What you have so far is a prefect type of remix between the original and your electronic style. Tons of improvement and potential here.
Peace.

easy now, this is some good stuff ere! yeh u say u dont know much - u know more than quite a few on ere!
anyways, agree with most of the comments so far. personally i would like to see the crash buildup before the drop build up smoother, it sounds like you went from 1/1 to 1/4 on the rythem, too sharp for my taste. also i would drop the high synth when it drops and introduce it back maybe 16 or 32 bars after the drop. yeh about the orchestra sounds, maybe they are interfereing a little at the start but i rekon if u just turned up the drums a tad it would get rid of that, failing that drop the 100 hz from em, (for me its usually the bass drum which interferes)
anyways, this is some real good quality stuff ere, liking your aproach to things, the drum edits are sweet as, cool ideas and quitegood eqing to boot.
(u know tho now u set a standard, you have to make the next tune even better!)
peace

The proper eq is crucial to get the sound right but its not the only thing you should get into consideration - proper balance in mixing is equally important ,even substitutes eqing at some places. The 3rd thing to be taken under consideration imo is soundpool - u wont make it right if its wrong at the core (if the given sound is garbage etc.).
The problem with the strings at the main hispeed part is that you left not enough place in mix for them - the other sounds are "too huge" in comparison and masking occurs. I would suggest either u get the balance different (bring them upfront ,lower the rest a bit) ,get it aurally different (try to spread it over panorama ,to make it more audible) ,finally try to boost them around 3khz (note that lead synth mask the presence of the strings).
hope u find it a bit usefull
cheers

Gotta start by saying u have a good taste in movies, 'Requiem' is a classic 'drugs-culture' film (a sad tale, which u definately captured in the tune) and one of my all-time favourites (missed by alot of people). Enough of the movie reviews and on to the music, which will be a little biased due to the sample content. I'ts a big thumbs up from me, really enjoyed it, great build up, would've liked the snares snapping a bit more, little dull to me, they seemed better in the breakdown at the end? May have also put a bit more effects( chorus or something) on the first synth. The drop is excellent but i think you should here that first synth i mentioned earlier alot more, a bit more eq'ing may help imo.
Using the rapid scene-changing clip from the movie at the drop is pure genius, sounds wicked, and if you you'd seen it, you'd know why, lol. Can't really find much else i'm not happy with, just gotta say you've definately captured the films 'highs and lows' excellently, good work and advise anyone who hasn't seen the movie to watch it, then listen to the track. Luke.

Don't take my vote too seriously, ive just gotten into the prodection scene. I LOVE IT. I love the melody and sub in it. i genuinally want a dub of this to play at my night. I would say the intro is a tiny bit too long but i like that. alot of people dont, and the drop is lil 2 long happening. but thats just me. hows it looking for a dub?
