I'm gonna plant myself firmly on the fence on this one
On the one hand, I'd trust my ears more if I was producing in a professional studio envirmonment with a more accurate frequency response
As it is, with my current setup, there's no way i'd not use an analyser to check the overall mix and the key elements kick, snare, sub etc

An oscilloscope measures a voltage and displays the measured signal, a spectrum analyzer analyzes a frequency band and displays the voltage on every frequency (in fact still a certain band, but smaller and more accurate) . You can not see the harmonics seperatly with a scope (unless you like analyzing complex signals 'by hand', but you'd have to calculate them, and thus can not 'see' them seperated on the display...)
Unless you are a hobbyist, use a normal spectrum analyzer for audio (0-20k) and NOT an oscilloscope
I use DIGICHECK, it came with my audio-interface: RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface. it contains even a scope, a stereo-scope(or something like that, i don't use/understand it in fact :p ), an analyzer for digital signals, and more...
Very low latency(adjustable & also Direct Monitoring available), high resolution (also adjustable), quality support (helpdesk, updates, compatibility) (It even runs on LINUX!!!!)
It's more than an analyzer and quite expensive, but if you consider to upgrade your hardware in general, i recommend it.
or you could build a linux system(with a video card that has a S-VIDEO or similar connector, to connect it to an old tv for example), (a linux system can be a pentium III with 512MB RAM for example..that's more than enough) buy the cheapest RME interface, and there you go: a rockstable quality spectrum analyser. (1 disadvantage: not very 'mobile'...)

Jus noticed this thread. Does Roger Nicholls IXL work on logic 8? If not can someone point me in the right direction please.
Thanks
