What software do the pro producers use? I listen to spor, black sun empire, noisia, concord dawn, ewun, klute. Is there a generally accepted software that most use or do they all use something different? And what do you recommend?

noisia use cubase i think n im pretty sure that black sun empire use fl studio, theres not really a set sequener that the pro's use but if ur jus startin out id recommend learning cubase (and thats coming from a fl user!!), cubase will teach u the fundamentals of making music well (unlike fl i have to say). but sayin that its not wot sequencer u use, its how u use it. using cubase or pro tools isn't gonna automatically make your tunes sound amazing.
generally accepted software? plug-in wise i hear that many dnb pro's use the z3ta synth which is amazing, i think the waves packages are used a lot too and native instruments software like kontakt, battery + absynth but id recommend starting off with smaller simpler synths before trying to tackle something like z3ta.

"spor use fruity loops", my opinion of spor has just risen quite a lot, man he must spend half his life making drum variations in fl Huh

the rpos use
cubase
logic
fl studio
reason
live
sound forge

all of which you can do major dnb tracks with, just which one would you find easier

cubase -good for recordign and everything else, is basicly logic for PC
logic - this does everything adn doe sit well, see:pendullum
fl studio - we all use it, it's got a learning curve and isn't ment for live recording but fun and easy to program with
reason - is just an all around package that is great if you have a big sound library or like to .rex stuff and then ship it into reason adn swap with friends
live - is great for recording and live preformance usign loop based samples
sound forge - for people that like to use wav and manipulate them by hand just got VST synth support

sound quality ( because some don't make pure soudns but actually taint it as it comes out):
cubase - crystal (not 100% about that actaully)
logic - crystal
fl - warm
reason - digital
live -crystal
sound forge - crystal

found the best way to test is to get a baby crying or laughing sound, and loop them next to eachother. babys voices are int eh spectrum we can distinguis the easiest. that's why they make them.

Very true. It's all about using your imagination (which I lack at the moment Big Grin ). Tracks created 10-15 years ago were produced with very simple software compared to todays stuff. A lot of that stuff was 100 x more creative than todays stuff. Partly because the artist didn't have loads of complicates 'extra features' to play with, thus slowing them down

I don't understand why people want the latest copy of CUBASE or FL 8 when most of the new features are only relevent to people working in professional studios. Its the same with VST's You only really need a few. What is the point in collecting hundreds? You don't get to learn there true protential then...

Don't get me wrong. I used to download every cracked item I could. It wasn't until I brought a genuine copy of Reason that I felt like I was really getting anywhere. Partly because I paid for it, so trying to learn it properly was the best way of getting my monies worth.

I heard Andy C uses a comb wrapped in a bit of toilet paper. Cool

If he wanted a really dirty bass, He would wipe his arse on it first. Shocked

I don't think it's important which of al these sofware applications you use. Just use the software you like. For me Ableton Live and dozens of plug-ins do the job. You shouldn't get too focused on these "Pro's" and create your own sound. Everybody out there started with nothing and they probably asked the same question.
