Anything goes mate... I would stay away from Behringer as it is known to be utterly garbage... otherwise all your suggestions could be good. It's personal choice really.

i had the photon x25 for a while now. good and reliable keyboard. even though the build in soundcard seems to be bollocks. i didnt really get it to work without dropouts.
sold it cuz i needed a larger keyrange. 61 keys..
give it a try. the xyz controller is nice to play with

my suggestion is to look in a Pawn Shop and get a sued keyboard, they all usually have MIDI and midi contorls on them, and if you research it you can find nice keyboards with a synth i got a DX10 and and it has a blowpiece midi in there, soy uo can play an instrument and blow into a midi straw, and actuallay get you "breath" to control MIDI after-breath i tihnk it's claled or something....... but that's something you might want to look into.

Is the soundcard a major factor? I already have a Creative Sound Blaster DE 5.1 soundcard. Is that okay then?
Why the need for 61 keys? Some people say 25 is enough. Comments?

How necessary is having more than 25 keys? My father reckons 25 keys are far too little and 61 is necessary. Also, what purpose do the knobs serve? How necessary are they?

...who plays an instrument in dnb anyway ...
ontopic: what's it with all those questions about midi keyboards, ... every midi keyboard out there does the same thing: it sends midi,
one has knobs one has faders, other one has 25 keys other one has 49 or 61 keys, heck some even have the full 88 keys
pick whichever you want, whichever one feels most comfortable to you,
one more thing -> m-audio has the most stable drivers, so an axiom49 is IMO the best choice out there, it has knobs, pads and faders, and it has 49 keys, which relieves you from the two octave limit from 25 keys without taking up all your desk space

and specially on that:
25 keys allow you to create melodies or chords spread over two octaves, which is fine at first, but you will notice that from time to time you're gonna want that extra octave in the bass or in the treble section, just because of some notes you wanna play there, or a chord voicing you might wanna spread out more
nothing to do with playing 2 hands or 1 and, you could create a melody over 7 octaves and still play it with one hand, just . how far do you wanna go
knobs are for recording automations instead of drawing them, or live controlling of parameters ..., faders same thing, although they come in handy to automate your mixer tracks, or group tracks

i have an old second hand edirol pcr 30. i think it has 3 octaves of keys. and a couple of knobs and sliders. i use it to audition noises. and i have the sliders locked to the master mixer. done. 25 keys should be more than enough.
