Reason 4 drum programing help |
|
I just got the book Jungle/Drum 'n' Bass for the acoustic drum set by Johnny Rabb for some drum pattern ideas. I'm trying to figure out how to program 16th note patterns using Redrum. Should I use the Edit mode in the sequencer and zoom in to see the smallest note count. I know to turn the Resolution knob to 1/16 but I can't see how I can program them in the pattern programmer. Or am I over thinking this or miss something. Any help would greatly appericated.

I know that but I get notes that fall between the notes like quarter notes, etc. I'm just trying to program them in. I'm new to producing so I may not use the right lingo or whatever so correct me is I say the wrong thing.

Simple: don't use the redrum. Load all your samples in an NN-XT, set them all to a different note, program you drums like you would melodies. Mucht more control and flexibility

I guess redrum is cool for noobs, it can get them to think how a sequencer works... light a button and the sound goes off at that point..
but you dont get to see all drums at the same time
in the sequencer, the little red blocks act as the buttons
once you figure that out, its NnXT all the way baby, choose your sounds and directly punch them in the sequencer which goes up 64 hits per pattern, enough resolution for everyone

Ok i figured out how to read the patterns that was my problem. So the NN-XT is better than Redrum ok I'll look into to it. Thanx for info.

Does the NN-XT program drums like Rex or is it differnet. Also would it be better to use it to program my own beat patterns. I've looked at the NN-XT and it looks fucking confusing... and I can tell its not as easy as Redrum at programming.

Agree with cynik n surya, you need to stick with the nnxt for your drums.
It is more complex, but thats the point
you got much greater control over individual samples envelopes, pitch, velocity in nnxt than in redrum. Plus the output routing is much more flexible. plus you can load up a rex break n map the invidual slices to different notes and recut breaks that way
is much better than redrum

Oh, but it is
Don't be confused with all the buttons at first, just load up some samples, all in the same NN-XT
Assign them each to exactly one note, by dragging the bar ends to the correct positions, to get the desired result, like in the first NN-XT in the following screenshot

If you play the notes you assigned the drums too, you will hear only the drum on that note. Than program your drums like you would a melody
