im not sure but it sounds to me like drums break alot more towards the drop and there is alot of running beats ie 16th beats in the last bar, dunno if it makes sense to you but i know what i mean, also remember silence is music, a second of silence says alot.

dunno tho just a newbie Confused

one way to creat a "wind up" is to get a synth sound, and hold the note until the drop, and then automate the pitch so it goes up until the drop.

A synth sound with a very fast LFO on it which gets faster as it approaches the drop works well

If you hear a drumroll in a tune and it sounds extremely good then chances are big that it is just a sample of a drumroll from a real drummer, rather than a self made drumroll.

There are sample packs containing drumrolls from real drummers, you can borrow a couple of hits from such a break, slice it, repeat it and make each hit a bit louder than the previous. Make sure you end it with a snare on the place where you would put a snare if it was a regular drum pattern and leave a short moment of silence before the snare hit. For an even better effect put a kick before the snare on the spot where it would normally appear.
Experiment a lot, make it your own, make several versions and see what works best in your tune. And if you don't succeed at first... practice makes master.

^^^^ works well ^^^^

in FL, what i do for my drum rolls is using the kick used in the beat, lay it out so it rolls then put it through a high pass filter, then in recording mode is the roll progresses and gets nearer to the drop, gradually reduce the mix level of the HP filter. if your rolls arent rolling very well, you can slighty lower the velocity of alternate kicks and/or the pitch.

lots of kick, snares, then sliced them up real good

gradual volume increases

add some toms for drama

reverse hats, rides, whatnot cymbals

rising atmospheres [pitch up]

*btw, have u heard of "anti drop"?
i think it builds up very strong then silences for a few, [along the final snare]
some delay, blank spaces here there,

then BOOM!!! massive drop

I use that anti-break quite often, I like it a lot.
build up with kick and snare raise levels as it progresses, then suddenly it stops to bang in the final snare and then the drop hits in massive.

Many synths don't support pitching as an event so I use the 3xOsc or a looped sample instead (FL studio) a short LFO is indeed a nice way to build the drama.
If you use the ghost bits from the amen break for a build-up it is really easy to get a good result.

I also like to use a bandpass filter on the drums and let it sweep from low to high when building up.

Good Thread Bigup

that drum roll, the section right before the drop, is a testiment to how good of a producer you are. everything else is standard filler coockie cutter, for all you jump up/clown steppa/darkstepping/just mkaing a standard drum and bass/cylax/dillinja producers.

true Smile , the right use of ghostsnares/kicks/hats very difficult ,for shure if you make it yourself + rolling

you have to take the right sounds + right velocities + some filtering on the ghosts to let it sound real rolling

even i struggle with it , i was looking for the right velocitie or a good sounding drummroll:

kick snare ghostsnares (in my case) snare ....

>>ghostsnares :
*derivates from snare (clone , bandpassfilter (highs out - in my case) , pianoroll (velocities... here is the point i struggle))
* 4 ghostnares (halfstep tempo)
* 1st ghostsnare comes right after my snare (2 cubes long) , each ghostsnare is 1 cube

>>>velocities:

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

1: half velocity (C5 -1cube)
2: full velocity C5
3: full velocity - a bit (C5-1cube)
4: full velocity - a bit (C5 +1 cube)

for a bit better cutting of the sound :
ctrl A - take the ghostsnares - select none (snap) - make the length of the ghostsnares shorter so you got a bit 'air' between them
