does anyone know of any books that give helpfull tips on production, like how to creatate effects, how compressers and other tools work and stuff like that. i spend £20 a month on mags but i work 12 hour shifts so i have a lot of reading time and a very boring job.

thanx Devil

Yep, you should definitely attempt to get Bob Katz's "Mastering Audio: The Art and the Science". I bought it a few weeks ago - worth it's weight in gold! Big Grin

Be sure to get the 2nd edition (2007) version, not the 2003 edition.

I didnt find Bob Katz book to be of any real value to producing... I found it good at telling stories about stuff and to understand what shit does, but it didnt really help with regards to producing electronic music... I think its more aimed to mixing live bands if anything

It is not about producing and not about mixing. It's about mastering, hence the title Wink
