That what I do with Reason. Load a loop into DR Rex or NN-XT then start re-aranging the notes around. Just try moving notes that fall in to the grids in an even ordinary position and swap them with another set of notes. You can then start moving those notes again in smaller groups. Try not Quantizing though.
