"Nature made it, and then broke the mold..."
VARIOUS ARTISTS - AT LOW FREQUENCY - SUBSTANCE Recordings (SBTNECD001) LIMITED EDITION

COVER: FRONT

COVER: BACK / CD

Beneath, not much telling, title "At Low Frequency" hides compilation published with limited imprint by record label SUBSTANCE™ Recordings. Each of five hundred silver rollers contain ten independent compositions, which thanks to its individual character trays to give as much as possible from music blessing called by ordinary people Drum & Bass. The idea of creating SUBSTANCE™ Recordings as a record label promoting such kind of music had existed just from the beginning. As it's known words "just from the beginning" don't give us details about genesis of this record company. Whole story has its beginning in small town in center Poland – BeBchatów. Two friends Abuse andMashed, whose path crossed together thanks to DJ'ing, once heard in the Internet mix promoting achievements of not well known producer duo called Genom. Set make tremendous impression on them, not only by originality of sounds presented there but also fact that those producers lived couple streets away. Because Abuse and Mashed really wanted to play their tracks, and those wasn't imprinted anywhere, the meeting of whole four was only matter of time. That unforgettable meeting results in undertaking, which come to live as a SUBSTANCE™ Recordings.

Most of the artists present on compilation have wide experience as a producers and DJs, and even some of them published their work in polish and foreign record labels. Despite diversity of each single track it isn't typical all-around record, which exhaust all thread form Drum & Bass. Its style oscillate between hard, clean sounds and rather delicate composition. The responsibility for "Dark side of the Force" takes Switch Technique and Mechaplex team. The first one, young enthusiast of hard metallic sounds get know from it's dark side as usual. From the other hand tracks made by Mechaplex, for which responsibility takes three producers from Aódz - Yabol, Pylon and Soccom, presents less broken but thanks to it more pulses variant of Drum & Bass which is more and more popular nowadays. The most gentle tracks came from Sonic Saturation and Radicall's hand. While duo from WaBbrzych and Katowice propose atmospheric loop of rushed track supported by delicate beat, then inspirited by electronic in all aspects Radicall enrich his track by melodious elements. One of the oldest polish team – Razorpoint and coming from WrocBaw - Holomovement, which modesty won't let him boast about his achievements in PC demo scene era, presents middle tracks firmly connected with electro stylistic. However Holomovement track became embedded in memory thanks to dynamic beat and little more aggressive, sour sound. The record opening and closing tracks are made by mentioned earlier Genom formation, which create the music over the differences and helping witch other projects. On the record it's possible to hear two tracks pointing their aggressive nature and also rather calm and gentle one, on which huge impact has DJs Abuse and Azbest.

As it's not hard to guess, ten tracks is way too few to exhaust such extensive topic as Drum & Bass. It obvious that we can expect more to come from SUBSTANCE™ Recordings. Moreover, each of artist presented above have still something to add and next are waiting for their chance.

Album is expected to be released at March 2008 and be available only through the Internet(www.substance-rec.com).

FEEDBACK:
DJ TRACE / DSCI4 / VIRUS / COMMERCIAL SUICIDE
"Look inside this compilation and you will find a few Polish gems, something for everyone - 9/10."

ASC / COVERT OPERATIONS / GOOD LOOKING / WARM COMMUNICATIONS
"Polish drum & bass production is starting to get noticed. Within the last year Radicall has been signed to my own label Covert Operations, and I've found myself dropping tunes by him and Sonic Saturation in my sets. Razorpoint and Sonic Saturation also got digital releases on Camino Blue aswell, so it's all definitely starting to happen for Polish drum & bass. Upon hearing the tracks featured in this compilation, I was impressed with the overall quality. You will find 10 strong tracks ranging from neuro & techy, to atmospheric and techmospheric. Give this CD a try and you won't be dissapointed."

ICR / COVERT OPERATIONS / NERVE / FOKUZ
"Mostly dominated by the techy/neuro angle of d&b, At Low Frequency is a nice piece of collection of well produced tracks from Polish producers, including some deeper, atmospheric tunes you can enjoy at home listening aswell."

PYRO / NERVE / HABIT / SHADYBRAIN
"Infinitesimal and Magog have been on heavy rotation, this looks to be a promising label"
