i start recording with the mod fully on and it comes of to make the full sound.
sounds simple but when i do this, it makes the rest of the bassline thru out the whole track stay on full mod when ive not even touched any of it?

make sure your automation lane is open the whole length of the b-line. otherwise, and im not sure, but i think the automation will continue on at the last point it was at unless you open more lane to make it do other wise if that makes any sense?

Yeah
What he said^^^^
automation will continue at the last automated level if it is not open the whole length of the part.

Make sure the knob is at the setting you want it to be for the entire track, than alter your modulation lane. Reason will take that as the default and return the know to that setting when you don't apply the automation.

Once you get used to how it works, it's fine, but it can be a bit confusing at times, indeed.
