Please check out my new track 'Overrun' and post your comments here!!!
This was my first attempt at making dnb. I used to create mostly alternative/experimental stuff for myself.
And I am now dwelling in the dnb world of production, and I'm finding it to be really hard, specially when it comes to building drums and basslines from scratch! Any tips or comments would be really appreciated!

nice first attempt
the whole track needs EQing the drums are over compressed, the effects on most stuff arn't complimenting the rest of the sounds
and there is little sign of effective mastering
look in the production problems page for a walkthrough on EQing and Mastering, read it and try to apply it to any future songs you make.
the snare is too low frequency it needs to be more snappy e.g reduce the 400hz and add more 1.3Khz
the bass line isnt too good the main throb sound sounds widely panned which isnt working with the rest of the track
layer a couple of more beats on the one you have to make it more rollin.
generally creating beats from scratch is quite difficult, find some good samples to begin with then work with those but add the single hits over the top then as you get better at balancing the track you can rely less on pre sampled breaks
anyways nice attempt

Obliviion12 thanks, actually I believe I got that sample from drumnbass.be's sample packs
Uberchile thanks very much for the tips!
I agree with everything you said. I've heard that many people sample other peoples drumloops in order to rebuild them, and I've tried that myself, the result was really quite good, but I got to thinking and decided not to use it, I rather work my ass off to learn how to generate my own original beats, and that's why all the tips about drums are really apreciated!
Actually I believe I'm starting to get an acceptable snare using camelcrusher and the parametric eq, but I still have to work on it! And getting that dynamic drumloop with power and class is turning out to be a real mind-crippler!
Anyways, thank you both for the replies! Any more would be awesome

Drums come in too loud and stay too loud. They distort quiet frequently too.
That droney bassline is too much muddy. And because they beats are low-sounding, they conflict, especially with the kick.
Also, that weird noise fx playing in the background really needs turning off after the first couple of bars. When the track got to .55 I seriously thought me missus had started doing the hoovering cos that's what it sounds like!!
The high pitched synth melody is not my kinda style I'm afraid. It sounds more like something from a house track or something.
Gets messy from 3.42 onwards. You need to think about losing some of the synths or at least cleaning up what's there.
I like the idea behind the beats, the patterns sound good to me. They've got a cool groove to them which you could jive ya booty to. And massive respect to you for building up your own beat patterns using single hits. Too many lazy fuckers in the dnb production world just using other peoples' loops (I'm guilty at that too sometimes, although I'm kicking the habit now).
