      It's not really possible I think to define a good tune in a set of rules, otherwise people would have written software that follows these rules and would churn out 20 good tunes an hour

      I think most good tunes:
- Are not TOO straight forward, but not too progressive in buildup either, just a little bit. So don't give away everything after 1 minute (like Dillinja ALWAYS does
 )
- Have a LOT of stuff that you only notice after the 20th time listening (you know, those little things that you don't hear but that DO contribute to the track)
- Have a PHAT bassline DUUUH!

      Phat bassline helps indeed

What I very recently discovered is telling a REAL story in 1 song ... I was soooo amazed, and then certanly cause it wa a breackcore track

It starts off with real calssic piona stuff... evolves into some downbeat bliss chill beat and evolves into DnB getting ruffer and ruffer till it explodes into something really messy but still in line and good !!! I was really totally surprised! I got the same feeling with the disney track from fantasia (every one must know the one where mickey teh wizard gets all those brums to work) dum tedum tedum tededede dum tedum tedum ...

      when a track comes from the heart---you can always tell...the best artists/musicians are the ones who do their art to please themselves...

      a good idea (a catchy tune, a vocal, a massive bassline). something that caries the tune.
and most important (imo), a good sound.

oh btw, at the dillinja remark: yes he does the same, be he's the only one that can do it. bringing proper tunage each time.

      Indeed, but I think a tune will last longer if you don't give away everything at once. Althoug a straight forward, no bullshit track every now and then can be very nice

Yup, indeed. And for that you need: good equipment -> studio monitors. When I bought mine, I suddenly heard all things I did wrong... I think my recent tracks sounds 200% better.

monitors help a lot, but it's not the only thing that does it. i learned some techniques over time that help me to get a proper mixdown. it's all about frequencies and puzzling them, seperating them,...
try a frequency analyzer (the Waves analyzer eg)
