ok the sound got hyped quite a lot by the pendurangers and sub focus, but still..
it's so easy to make a banging snare if it's one of those 200hz synthsnares, it's so easy to sound good with it
why go trough all the hassle of making a nice puncy snare without getting 200hzpendusnares?
I am guilty, are you?

Not me. I make snares by layering about 5 snare samples, EQing, pitching and compressing each one of them. I always keep on adding layers

ha well, they sound good so everyone gets in a certain habit of using them, just till the moment where you realize that it all starts to sound the same
drum revolution WILL come again, don't worry
how beautiful is a snare that doesn't necessarily has that 200hz peak.
as long as it sounds natural it's all good no?
layered, resampled, whatever ...

same here. I don't know what you're talking about but if you're talking about pendulum snares, then imo those snares suck
big time. I like em harsh and edgey, the pitch depends on the track.

a snares a snare, i just throw some shit in, and if it doesn't fit replae, it, usually just layer 2, but it's gotta be snappy, 200hz makes for a fat snare, and usually it's only drum machines that have it there, real snares are more 1khz and 5khz, 200hz it's really low, and most instruments you usually remove the 200hz, so it doesn't hurt to fill it with the snare for some "phat" but whatever, getting the perfect snare is overrater, you can change that soundt eh easiest.

I noticed that too... these freqencies give the snare a characteristic sound which is typically not desired in DnB.

I was going to make a topic about this but I might aswell post my question here, in a snares-topic: I'm wondering how to make this sort of snare, used frequently in darker dnb. I heard it again some minutes ago in Red Dawn, by Miss Redflower: http://www.myspace.com/missredflower
how do you think she made it? good samples? or are there some things you gotta keep in mind making one like this?

most metallic nares you can make with distorting drums, specially fi they have even the smallest of a ring to them, distortions bring them out a lot more. personally the song you. red dawn sounds like most of thoes hard songs with an amen layed on, and much slower than most dnb music i listent o

i hate pendusnares man..
no character to them and often means the track has to sound a certain way for them to fit, i.e- very synth orientated and digital, euw yuck!!!

i find if you want that really agressive sound with the off beats to not make 200hz in the snare but to layer on a tom or kick drum that gives that 200hz better and more naturally. that's what a real drummer would do, not bring otut eh 200hz ont eh snare but hit the kick pedal or floor tom......
