Don't know wether this is any help , but i'm sure it will be to alot of producers having trouble with reason 3 drum machines !!!!! In the link i have provided , there is the template that i have made and use all the time to try to get my drums sounding right , as you will see on getting this template , you will find it easier to process your drum patterns more easyly by adding individual effects like scream distortion , compressers , delay and you will be able to add bass and treble as well to every individual drum sample you wish to process , it may look a bit complicated at first but it will help you in the future !!!!!!!!!!

Dont forget to use the sends on the "mixer in combinator" to add the effects , and you will find that i have put other effects in every channel as well , so try it out , any questions , feel free to ask !!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers mate. Will have a look at this. I'm always interested to see how others set up Reason. Happy

I have just tried it out. That is amazing mate!

I really love this site. So many people here give out great informative ways of creating tune on this site. I was a bit worried that it would be like DOA or some of the other production site where nobody will really help, without trying to make you look stupid and just keeps everything to themselves. Thanks everyone.

i have a couple of questions.

are you loading breaks into this?

where do you put what?

why are you using 2 band eq?

why are your beats starting in the 16 - 32 section?

THis is Redrum with a load of added feature basicly. Just use it like normal ie. Load individual hit ect and create your own loops. The way it is set up is so that it is more dynamic in 'mastering' your beats. ie reverb, compression on individual samples and the overall loop. It looks a bit complex at first, but works real well. It is good in the way, that you could in theory load a few snares, cut out the bad bits with the eq on each, add individual distortion ect and make your own snare sound on the fly...

This should be added to the Samples section so everyone with Reason can try it. 10/10 Cool

How is the NN-XT better for drums? I'm not disagreeing with you, just wondering why? What are the advantages?

Filtering
More envelope control
More pitch control
Layering sounds or hits
still got mutliple outs
can adjust the start and end times on every hits
can load rex files straight into in and they are automatically mapped to the keyboard
more options with velocity modulation

need any more? Big Grin

Cheers Jimmy, Your worth ya weight in gold with all the info you give! Thanks for the patches. Most worked except the Reece ones. I assume they were done with Reason 4.

Didn't know rex files seperate into seperate patches. That pretty cool. I'm gonna try mixing the NN-XT with the setup uploaded here. Is the only way to get the layout from the rex file onto the NN-XT sequencer to create a Dr Rex and copy/paste the layout for the drums into the NN-XT sequencer? Or am I missing something here...

Yeah i guess so but i dont bother with that.

Its quite easy to draw it out the same.....unless of course you want exact "groove" of the break

but i nearly always change the breaks construction so i dont worry with that

Combi Patch

Above i've attached a combi patch which is a patch i use for my rex files.

To use......

Use the patch browser on the NN-XT to open the rex you want.
This will map the break from C1 upwards on the piano roll.

Then on the NN-XT select the snares from the break and set their output to 3-4.
Then select the hats and ghosts abd route them to outputs 5-6.
And the kicks will be coming out the default 1-2

Now your outputs should be playing

1-2: Kicks
3-4: Snare
5-6: Hats and ghosts (or as i've labeled it "shuffle") (i like to process these together when processing breaks)

I've wired in an EQ and compressor for each section so now you can do separate eq and compression to the kicks, snares etc.
(the eqs and comps are activated by the first two buttons on the combi's front panel........this is mainly for doing on/off comparisons so you can hear if the eq and compression you are doing is actually making it sound better )

This now all goes to the mixer in the combi so you can add varying amounts of reverb, distortion etc to each group

Finally i've added a master Eq and comp just for uniform adjustments. (both of which are activated by the last 2 buttons on the combi front panel)

Dunno if that's confusing or not, but read through what i've written while playing with reason and it should all make sense

Thats about it.....if you have any questions about the patch either PM me or post here Big Grin

Hope that helps

What i also forgot to mention is that once you've got the break how you like you can then save the patch and then load it up for other songs if you so wish...helping speed up work flow Big Grin

Cheers Ghost, But the combi comes up as corrupt/unknown format. Was this done with Reason 4? I'm going to try creating something similar with Reason 3. Thanks again Banana

Indeed

One more thing: TYPING IN CAPS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND NOT POLITE.
