Please check out my new track 'Destiny' and post your comments here!!!

This is the first track I've uploaded, I'm pretty new to making drum and bass and electronic music in general. I'm using FL 7.

I used some of the samples from the site, including Surya's drums and one of Dave Akuma's breaks. Thanks guys! I also want to thank Binary Havoc for giving me some really helpful advice along the way.

The piece originally had some film vocals, which I took out. I'm planning on recording some vocal samples myself. I also want to record live sax to replace the soundfont in the track.

Thanks for listening, let me know what you think!

The sax sounds a bit artificial and maybe the melodies are a bit too complex to hide the fact that it's a soundfont. This could work with live sax. I think the track would benefit form a less dominant sax though. This is too much the DnB version from Laurent Garnier's "The man with the red face".
All in all far from bad and as a first posting it is really good. Overall the track sounds a bit too clean and the sounds are to standard midi for my taste.
Instead of 2 synchronic melodies with the sax you could try to use 1 different instrument because it sounds so over-busy this way.

welcome!

i am a big sax fan so the sample works for me.

the beats need layering better tho.
adding kick on kick and so on.

your melodies seem all good. the idea here is fine, just work on your beats and bass a bit more.

also, try get your hands on a good eq tutorial.
peace.

Pretty good melodies but the beats are a bit lacking. They need to be more upfront and flow a bit more. I do like some of your melodies tho, particularly the stringy bits. I'm a sucka for strings! The sax? Yeah, pretty nice stuff, good sound and I like the way you have two different sax playing at the same time. Would like to hear a bit more drama in the melodies tho, more highs and lows and perhaps a few extra sounds in there to define the track a bit more.

.. oh, it just finished. Needs a little work on the beats, but nice track man.

EZ Minas

Good to see you get your first post up here man Bigup

I think the beats are good but maybe a little too fancy, maybe need beefing up a tad with a few layered single hits??

Like your strings n bass synth parts but again maybe you could add some interest by layering those patterns up with some other parts to add a bit more interest??

Sax works for me but will be much better when you record it live.

Good work

Lookin forward to your next tune

Peace man

Thanks a lot for the comments everyone. I'm going to give this piece a break for a week or so and overhaul the beats.

I played trombone for four years in a jazz ensemble in high school, and the whole point of this tune for me was to make a jazz/DnB fusion track. I think I'm going to keep the sax; whether or not it fits depends on personal taste I guess. I'll probably tone down its dominance in the piece though.

I'll try to come up with a couple more melodic elements and effects to tie the piece together.

Thanks again for the feedback, this site has helped me a lot!

the jazzy sax does not fit the techy mechy beats
the main parts of any good dnb tune should be the drums and the bass.
at the moment the bass is IMO boring lose it use the sax and the beats then build a bassline around the melody of the sax and the timing of the drums
good stuff for a begginer however the sax is growing on me more than anything else.
