Yeah you got the basic idea, the 2 programs run alongside each other.
With Cubase n reason for example, you open cubase first, then reason.
Reason will then run in rewire mode and start / stop etc at the same time as cubase.
In cubase device manager you just open as many reason channels as you are using and they'll appear in cubase's mixer as rewire channels.
The great bit is that you can then apply VST effects to reason channels, which you wouldnt normally be able to do in Reason as it doesnt support Vst.
