Maybe a stupid question, but it's kinda strange for me.
You know, with the basic break, you can either have one kick (tick 1) or 2 (tick 1 and 3) before the first snare.
When I started out producing DnB I always went for the single kick, since I couldn't get the double kick to work.
Now it's the other way around. I find that the double kick gives more power to the break, and I'm having a hard time not using the double kick.
So, which do you prefer, of don't you think about these kind of things?

It really depends on the mood of the tune ...
Mostly single kick though with me

AS many as i can get without being ridiculous! Nothing like a rolling deep deep noise to make your break roll. Probably just me though...

i agree with the chronic about alternating them---the double kick does seem to add more energy and aggressiveness to the beat....

yes but if not used wisely it also adds more klumziness en static vibes to the tune ...
really depends ...
listen to Dieselboy - The Descent (on many filesharing programs found as stakka & skynet - side effects rmx
)
that's got one kick and one snare, and some lil ghosts here and there and that's one of the most powerful breaks i heard yet ...even outrages the heaviest amen ... and it has a single kick ...
so it really depends on what you do with it and how [YOU make it sound ...

Sorry to say, but indeed a stupid question
, just go with the flow... I use fucked up beats, so a kick more or less, doesn't matter to me...
Just be original (sometimes that's hard in DnB, I know)

I know exactly what you're sayin' Surya! Once I started using the double kick, singles felt kind o'
boring. Have you thrown in a kick on the 15 w/ the 1 & 3? (reallly rollin')
oooh but it doesn't end there, ghost kicks start movin' in and I wonder how I ever lived w/o them. Simple 2 step/single kick, I say good day sir! Gimme' the auspicious double, or the triple
w/ a helthy dose o' gohst. Only then shall I sway to and fro like and idiot savant who knows something the rest of the world couldn't possibly understand.

um second rude . . . i go K - S - K K - S more often than not. though it does depends a lot on the tune. if im going for a more liquid vibe i tend to be more sparing with the kick for example.

Depens really. Double is now more often, but sometimes I want to drop an oldskool break and I use the single kick - it gives more delayed (anticipation) power.
I don't know exactly, all depens on my sexual contentment to which combination I would use
