Not exactly sure what "grime" is myself. Wasn't it started by Dillinja when he made a track with the same name? I remember reading that on a website somewhere, can't remember which one tho.

the "real" genre of "grime"
is a dirtier extension of garage that broke away about the millenium time.
look out for artists such as SKEPTA, ROLL DEEP, J.M.E, DEVILMAN, DIZZY RASCAL.
its a very "uk-black' orientated sound.
dirty bass with often minimalist beats and mostly an mc/rapper or five
chatting and battling.
a lot of grime sux ass because of the "gun culture" and gangsta wannabe's, but there is some really good production out there too.
type "practice hours' in the youtube search bar for more.
its more mc/rapper but there are some good ones in there.

Grime is a subgenre of UK garage which emerged in the early millenium . first appearing as 8-bar/sublow/eski beat, characterised with simple slower, harder hitting drums and gritty basslines made with the mc in mind. Wiley's 'eski boy' is seen as a pioneering track for the genre. As its popularity in london grew, the characteristic of grime matured as producers developed its sound to reflect inner city life and urban culture (hence the name 'grime', its not particularly happy music!). Grime has since developed into UK's take on hiphop.
Dubstep also has similar roots, with itself and grime a spawn of the 'champagne' garage scene. In the lates 90's the UK was experiencing garage fever (ahhh the memories!) with the 2-step scene booming both commercially (craig david etc) and in the underground. around this time a small group of producers used the 2-step pattern but where experimenting, changing its sound into a darker form. gradually this sound developed into the worldwide sounds we know today as grime and dubstep.
It has nothing to do with dillinja, soz
