I think everyone on here must know those little electronic devices guitarplayers can plug their (electronic) guitar in to see if their guitar is tuned.
Can anyone reccomend me a vst that does the same thing, telling me what key/note a sample is?
The more simple it is the better, i really only need a meter giving me the required information
and yes i'm an idiot that cant hear wheter something is in key

melodine can analyze a sample and show the notes

melodyne is mainly developed for vocal corrections (bit like antares autotune, but in a different way of workings/algorythms)
quickest way to identify notes or keys, is just listening and playing some sort of tempered instrument next to it.
notes work for the tuner or melodyne, but lots of samples (like guitar hits, horn stabs, synth stabs, etc) contain harmony, so you'd be searching for exact chords, like a Dm7 or a Gmaj9, easiest way to get to the exact chord you're listening to is starting from the bass note, look for the bass note, and work your way up the register till you get all the notes that are in the chord.
maybe antares (autotune) can show you entire chords, don't know actually, but it has a built-in scale register, so maybe there's a way there ...
this method works for anybody. takes some time at the start, but the more you do it the easier it gets

Analog X Autotune
You give it a sound and tell it to what note you want it to be tuned, the software does the rest. Good stuff!
