usually it means coposite. or sometiems competition. i guess it could mean compressing, but i have never heard of comping something.

no its definetely nota type-o, i read it in sound on sound before, and some guy said it to me recently...(a producer)... he said he needed someone to "comp his vocals"..... im sure its not compressing. I looked in the audio dictionary thing online but wasnt there

Im not sure if there are any other meanings for comping, but vocal comping is a method of recording where several takes are recorded and the best parts of each take are edited together. Theres a short clip of this on youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZP-LoImBM4

if he said comp vocals it could also mean compress, as in the effect. it really could be either from that one sentance. composite a bunch fo takes or compress. the idiot should just use longer words.

i think i've read the article that Digital Cause is on about and by comping he means doing a sub mix of the vocals, exporting that minimix then bringing them back in so he cuts 6 tracks down to 1 or 2.

He was saying this cuz he was mixing a rock song that has near to 100 audio tracks.
So to make his life easier he'd do lots of sub mixes like...lead guitar, bass, backing vocals etc
to simplify the mix

comping on this forum will most probably mean compressing.

although comping is a widely used as a musical term to describe accompanying a singer or lead instrument with a rythmical and harmonical instrument f.e. a guitar/lute/piano/harp/synth/keys/whatever, or to describe the whole instrumental part of a song, the "comp" version.
