Please check out my new track 'ShinTo - I dont need this' and post your comments here!!!

easy now dnb heads!

been a bit busy recently so i havent been on here much - i will catch up on peeps tunes when i get the chance tho.

anyways this is a tune that me and Tomos have been working on recently. The collab name is ShinTo (a pat on the back to whoever can guess why that name..) and the tune name being "I dont need this"

anyways it was made jointly on Fruity loops and Reason using a shite load of samples and synths - i dont wanna know how many... and after a bucket load of tea and enuff ciggys to kill an elephant this is the result.

might be a little commercial for most people (trying to make tunes that Japanese girls like is like selling ice to eskimos) but as always any comments are much appreciated.

peace

Thanks for uploading this one Shiny. It took a little while to polish this one off, so it'll be interesting to see what the dnb.be heads think... hope you all like it.

lol, shinto.....that's nearly as inspired as gun culture! Big Grin

excellent track this guys, good work.

i love the the electro stylee vox and the "i need your love" vocals.
its safe to say you boys got that side of tings down to a tee.
really adds another dimension.
i wouldnt mind improving on that side myself.
need some really good samples first tho.

listenedon the headphones so i cant fully comment on the mix
but everything sounds good on these things.

yeah, you could be right about the commercial points, i'd even go as far
as to say this has a touch of pendulum about it.
but i dont mind a bit of commercial dnb, just not super cheese.
anyways i likes the track. could you send me a 320 copy? Wink

peace shinto, top lads!

ps..big up tomos on your new avatar. where da fk is yours shin?

ez.
just had a proper listen on my system and.....

i think you should really focus on the low end of your mix.

that really juicy frequency between 40 and 70 hz is lacking in your stuff,
sorry if that sounds too critical, its just if you could improve on that
area, it would take your sounds to the next level.
for example, on pendulum tunes (their mixdowns are 2nd to none)....
listen to the sub low squelches that they use and try to incorporate
(not copy) that into future tunes.

just as a general rule...
less 250hz and more 40/70hz imo, or maybe try the lower notes on your bass samples or synths until it shakes your belly.

okilee dokilee.

ps.. i still rate the track, send me a copy biyatches Pleased

You've lost me. Confused How do you incorporate more 40/70hz into the mix? Sorry, but I know absolutely dick all about hertz and frequencies. Any tips you can give a thick twat like me? Shit, I've never even used compression before!! I'm using FLStudio, btw.

Cheers mateous.

Great result of a collab... I always love it when a collab works out. Tune is a bit mainstream for me (taste), but the arangment is spot on, drum rolls are great, the vocals are cute (vocoded your own voice?). Sometimes there are weird things going on though, at some spots it seems like you play 2 major loops after eachother and the moment you switch loops leave a little gap or inconsistency in the drums (e.g. 4:52, but also on other places). Too bad for a great tune.
If you were on the same DAW the collab would probably have worked faster though.

If you're on FL7, load an EQUO plugin on your bass mixer channel and look at it when playing your bassline, you'll notice the different frequency bands from left to right (low to high). If you want a fat rumble you might want to raise the slider in the 40-70Hz area (carefull, don't overdo it) and to avoid "muddyness" in the bass sound you should lower the slider which is closest to 250Hz. Don't go mad on those sliders, +/ - 3dB means this part of the frequency spectrum is played at 200% / 50% of it's original volume.

I find it really surprising that you don't know anything about frequencies. How the fuck do you mixdown your track then? I've been studying this EQing shit quite intensively and to no extend really. I always manage to ruin the result. So I can't warn you enough to not overdo it.

Great posting on Breakz.be giving an overview on EQing, leveling,mastering,....

BTW: Cut anything under 40Hz on your master (Fruity Free filter, High pass, set Q to 0, frequency 40Hz) as it just makes things dirty and it can't be played/heard anyway.

Shin done the final mix on this one Bigup but when I do me own tunes, I just go by ear. If it sounds good I leave it, if it doesn't I just tweak the pitch & level knobs or add an effect to it. If that doesn't work, I load a new sample. Once I like the track, I hit the "Render as Audio File" button. Basic as bollocks.

I only started making tunes a few months ago but it's about time I got into the more technical production side of things.

Yeh thanks BD and 7G for the advice. Yeh i work only on Reason because im too lazy to work on anything else! You guys wouldnt happan to know of a separate program where u could see all the levels would you?

Yeh atm i do what Tomos does - just listen to it, compare with other tracks and then tweak it. it doesnt help matters that i only use headphones when mixing down either - i got some ns10s but since i got the laptop im never at home making tunes. yeh ns10s are good but i cant really tell about the low ends on them - i used to have my curry delivery wagon - a smelly beast of a mazda with twin 12inch kenwoods in it which was good for checking tunes but now im in Japan i dont hav it anymore - sobsob..

anyways there is a mix where i have boosted the low ends a tad - pm me if u wanna hear it

@7G - my avatar kiks everones arse! yeh check ur pms too

i use an equalizer in nearly all of the samples i use (tedious but needed).

try the parametric equalizer in fruity for subtractive eqing. e.g..load it up and take away some muddyness in some samples by turning down the 250hz and 500hz knobs (mainly 250). you can hear the massive difference in mud sound, when you turn those levels up and down drastically, so just tweak em a bit.
also fruity bass boost is very simple and easy to use.
its the first fx i ever used in my tunes but i proper used to over-do it.
just load it up in your fx track on your bass, then you can see that there are only two types of tweaking you can do..... frequency and boost amount. just tweak around till it sounds fatter. simple.

like bd says, be warned not to over-do it.
i'm still learning this side of producing and its damn hard.
i started a tune today, got a wicked vibe going then realised that the mix sounded soo muddy n shit that i just gave up on it imediately! Mad

try to clear up your sample database and in future, only download top quality sounding ones because using good ones gives you a head start already.
i got soooo much crappy samples but i cant bring myself to chuck em all yet. Roll Eyes
@shinyuri.. it is the same principle for reason i presume. just load an equalizer into the main samples of your track and do the same kinda thing.

boys, this is the shit. probably the best tune I have heard on this site. It has a polished, silk feel to it. It may have a commercial feel, but in a good way to my ears (i heard a new pendulum track recently, and it sucked) this track is up there, keep it up, and surely youll get signed. Big up. keep em rollin.

Intersting start, quite liking the vocoding, nice stereo sound,

Oh here comes the drop, a little dissapointed, oh ok maybe that wasnt the main drop Big Grin

now sounding better....nice tune you gots going on here, i like this style.

The things i dont like however are.....

drums sound a bit empty and could do with more "filler"
that snare sticks out a bit too much

and it feels a little empty sub wise or i may just being bass hungry Big Grin

not much else i can say really, good tune.
with some slight eqing this could be a great tune

WOW!
awesome track. the structure here is really pro.
i love how you have composed this. i like the change of key in the bass as it switches up, that really put me in the mood to brockout.
the snare is a bit too apparent so i would pull that back a bit. the bass is not low and powerful enough. you should try and listen to some sub focus basses and try to make a bass as hard hitting as that.
