Hi, I've been reading these forums for a while now but this is my first post.

I was just wondering how u guys programme your beats, either in audio or midi or a mixture of the two. I hear a lot of the top producers work primarily in audio and sometimes use a few midi tracks also but i was wondering what the advantage is with using audio. Using a drum sampler such as Battery allows you to maipulate each individual sample (compression, volume envelope etc) without the need to use inserts or sends and as far as I'm aware, programming using audio doesnt seem to make the job any simpler. So why do many producers choose to make thier beats in audio?

Because they use good breaks that don't need to be manipulated on the level of a single hit. Good samples is everything.
