Yeah this laptop will do what you expect from it. Youve got really a lot of ram memory, and disk storage. Even so much you prob wont use it. A laptop for producing doesnt even need to be this advanced. So this laptop will fit your needs, just check before you buy, if it has all ports you need, like midi etc... Which can come in handy. if it doesnt support midi no problem you buy a midi>usb connector for 12 bucks.

SHould be ok for audio. The HD is bigger than you need: all my audio is on an external drive, threw usb 2.
I guess you'll get a sound card...? If yes, make sure to take pcmcia (pc card), or firewire one.
What OS?? If it is vista, 2GB of ram is a minimum, better stick to xp. If you get it preinstalled, make sure to format and reinstall as well... laptop are full of shit and eat ressources for nothing. Make sure to have all drivers 
Acer got very good reputation these days, good choice

True, especially since it took them about a year to make xp stable..They are even going to make a 3rd service pack for xp cause vista is not selling well.. looks like they have to get rid of xp to sell vista...

i'm a bit doubting between the acer laptop and this (dell) desktop, since they are both more or less the same price and i'm not very sure whether i'm really gonna use my pc on the move that much..
the desktop is this:

the desktop is better, but that's normal, laptops are always more expensive.
You don't need a 22" screen btw, that's enormeous
667MHz RAM is slower than current standard (800MHz), but hey, it's a Dell what do you expect
