me and culture boy have just (and mean only just!)
started on cubase sx.
we do not have a clue what to do with it.
any tips for beginners?
any good warnings?
what are your experiences of cubase?
i've started reading the tutorial, but i prefer hands on advice, if ya catch my drift.
any good links to video tutorials would be cool too.
remember, proper beginner style!
thnx in advance mighty peeps

i use cubase sl, and find it to be great. advice? well when i start a project, i start with a blank project and add tracks as i go. example. if you want midi tracks to control vst synths? create a midi track in "add track" go to the vst instruments panel and choose the vst you want. click back on the main window, and on the midi channel you created select the midi input and output, eg input as your controller keyboard and output as your selected vst synth. then you can record your midi, you can see indicators on the channel when it recieves midi, all real time synth action.

same for audio tracks, select "add track" - "audio" then "import audio file" pretty basic.

I tried logic years ago and just could not get it, to me cubase is laid out really well and is quite easy to use. another tip i guess is the tempo track thing, ctrl T, and you can set your tempo,

f3 brings up the mixer, f2 the transport panel, its all pretty self explanatory from there, when you choose your vst effects they are all there in your vst folder.

i use this program a lot, so if there is anything specific I am sure I can help you out, going off your music I am sure youll pick it up really quickly, good luck.

oh yeah, if you hook up to reason, go to the reason inputs menu in cubase and click the tracks you want.

hope this was of some help. Smile

i only know a good german tutorial.

hit me up on messenger if you have any questions

basically:
f2 change tempo, f11 insert vsts, create midi track and route as explained above. use a sampler for drums...
draw patterns/notes by holding down 'alt' key. while in pattern view, alt+right click lets you access your tools. alt+shift lets you create ghost copies of patterns. (that was pretty important to me)

ah yea, im on sx 2.1 and i love it Big Grin

start cubase
go to file , enter new project
go to project, add new track (select midi or audio)
make sure tracks (midi or audio) input and output are what you need them to be.

Are you rewiring with cubase as your host app. If so what to?
If not, what hardware synths/ samplers are you using and what channels are they connected
to on your audio interface?
Or, are you using vst's or all of the the above? If all of the above, where do you want to start?
