What was your first DnB/Jungle "moment" like?
I'll explain about me losing my DnB virginity...
1994 - came home after a night out (house and Techno) and couldn't sleep. I switched on the TV and checked MTV for a while, there was a show on called "The Party Zone" and they played a track called "The Incredible General" by General Levi. I had never ever heard anything like that but was totally stunned by it. Never saw the video again, non of my friends knew it.
Nothing happened untill the summer of 1999 a national radio (Studio Brussel) started to push DnB massivly at that time, but I didn't like it, a lot of stuff was from Aphrodite and the likes. But then I heard Ed Rush & Optical's Bacteria and BANG! I fell in love.
I bought a few CD's but I didn't like most of it. I listened to a DnB radioshow more or less regularly but most of it was really super liquid with a lot of soulfull singers and I didn't like it at all.
In 2003 I heard some DnB track which was so much better than the stuff of Ed Rush&Optical, but I still don't know the track's name. It was then that I picked up the style as a whole and decided that I wanted to compose DnB instead of Techno.

I was living in England when I was about 17.. back in 1996... had an English GF at the time, made me discover peshay, Buckem, and Doc scott. Always digged the dark side. Had a year break as I was back in France for a year, spread the word with the few tapes I had....Never stopped listening since then. Jungle was underground oin France at this time, It is very fashionnable right on!!
I was listening to tech as well before, a lot of free parties in france ( teknival). Now I can barely listen to a 4/4 kick..

i first heard jungle on pirate radio in 94 ish.
what i remember hit more than anything was the beats.
chopped up like mad, and loads of energy.
i was more in to hardcore, house, and gabba techno then.
i stuck with hardcore (which was very jungly at the time anyway),
until i went to my first rave, vibealite, which was mostly hardcore, except two sets doing jungle/dnb
saw dj ratty and mastervibe and that was cool, but not earth shattering.
but the biggest WOW, was when i went to the mighty helter skelter
at the sanctuary (now demolished for a football stadium) in 1996,
and saw dr. s gachet. it was that set that was a revalation, with its swooping basses hanging on to my throat and sitting on my guts!
that was the last good year of hardcore IMO, and by the end of the year, i only listened to drum n bass.

first experience was on mtv and radio 10years ago orso , when i heared breakbeat , also jungleparts in hardcore and stuff... but i didnt liked it
then later on there was prodigy and stuff and some comercial dnb wich i didnt like either , it was too soft then
later on while listening to hiphop constantly i encountered psychedelic music (like goa and dnb for me back then) , heared tracks like Badcompany , Aphrodite , Pendulum , Dillinja and i got realy hooked.
then i was doing researches for dnb cause i knew shit about it... got to know new producers , styles and history about dnb then and always went for the
Hardest dnb i could find
first pendulum and dilinja did it for me , hard basses and grimey stuff and hard drums hehe oh lovely hardstep , then i knew Dylan , Noisia , Future Prophecies... and dnb went better and better ... harder and harder...
then i got into Darkstep and the most shocking dnb-moment for me was the upcoming Limewax back then
and he's still one of my favo's : fucking sick drumprogramming , dared compositions and fresh production ...
now im still into Darkstep wich is for me good dark + hard + lots of variety + good to dance hard
lovely darkstep

techno and dnb, back in the early ninetees techno bored me to death with the constant boom boom boom booom.. , atm I was all over death metal, I remember attending early jungle parties with just a few people around, I was thinking what kind of crazy music is this lol, and why all othe dumbasses jump up to techno but not dnb. wiith the metal scene dying and deteriorating, everybody copying everyone else, techno becoming more boring and extinct really with a huge house music boom in the late ninetees and the only logical choice was dnb, a constantly evolving style which was attracting more and more people...
Goldie - Timeless must have been the footprint in my experience album and track wise

it's actually m-beat ft general levi ''incredible''
(tip: it's been re-released on soul jazz records, an album called ''rumble in the jungle'', also on it other classic jungle bits: uk apachi, ragga twins etc)
my story is quite similar.
My bro (dobio) went to this recordshop in dover with some mates (i couldn't attend, dunno why anymore) and picked this up.
We both were amazed by the energy and vibe of this music... since then we've been following jungle ever since .

I don't think it is lame at all. It is more creative, it doesn't import so many words and it's simplified.
