mackie is ok stuff.
If I were you I would not put any money in low budget monitors unless you have no speakers at all at the moment. I'd rather buy some decent headphones instead, that way your good money isn't wasted when you buy the mackies.

pretty much all the budget stuff is owned by the same people now and it's all the same quality. makcie use to be really good for cheap, but it's just like anything else. just don't get behrignger. because that's known to be shit. it's like nike inverted.

if by dog's you mean good. then no. they are not the dog's. not even puppies. at least in name brand appeal. there cheap chinese makes. at the least get it mexican made. to be honest you can learn to make stuff yourself, except speakers. even then you can make speakers. you can get better quality for price by DIY kits.

You might as well forget Behringer, it's the bottom end of the market really.
Only buy Behringer if you just have Ipod headphones or something to compose on. See what works for you. Check some of the bigger music gear shops and see if they have anything cheaper than Behringer? It's cheap for a reason or?
I know some people on here who got singed to a label and they make good quality tracks, but their setup is ultra basic with some very mediocre hifi speakers.
Mackie is a subbrand from Tapco and they do label it that way (Mackie by Tapco), so they are not just dumping cheap gear on the market to get rid of their bad components and crap designs or something, by mentioning the name Tapco they show that they take things serious.
When you buy $1000 monitors (each) this will not make you an instant DnB God, you'll need to adapt to the sound of the monitors, position them correctly, listen to a lot of other music on them so you know how loud the bass should be in order to produce a good sound etc.
I'm still in the process of learning how everything should sound on my monitors (Yamaha >€500). It's a lengthy process really, unless you were born with some extra talent (which I'm obviously not).

hmmmmm, i always thought it was about acoustics.. room acoustics and the way the monitors react to that particular room. but then again thats the big end of town. my suggestion would be to listen to the type of productions you are trying to achieve on any monitors, and if you can reproduce that, whether it be exact or really close your on the right track. dont get caught up in gear lust, its a real fucker.

ahhh, see these are Near-Fields, they are closer to you, and hit you before the others sounds do i.e. room reflect. these help negatve acoustics, much like headphones. they are used because you can take teh same pair of near-fields to different rooms and still get a consistant sound. more speaker, less room.

Those are my babies
Bass is ok, but not if you are too near, sometimes you need to lean back a bit to hear the bass in full force.
