Well, guys, I've created a tune called Moon Walk, and I'd like you to hear it. It is crap, though, but I still want to make DnB and to have tips that will improve me! So, pls listen it! ;-) Thnx

Andrei

Tough one, this Big Grin It's completely different from what I've heard up to now Big Grin

First of all what I notice is that the drums sound very thin, it sounds like it's coming out of a GM module. The kick definitely needs more boom. The snare is too snappy, needs a bit of depth.
The basic drum loop is nicely sequenced, but you should put some variation in it, it is now basically the same throughout the entire song.

Cymbals are too loud!! Cymbals should enhance the sequencing, but may never be too much in your face.
And that noise that's coming in from time to time (eg at 1:01) is so loud that the recording is distorted. This distortion happens a lot of times at peaks in the music. To avoid this you should use compressors and limiters to control the "dynamics" of the song (this is the 'volume' of everything - a compressor will make everything sound louder while it controls the peaks, so it doesn't distort so easily). And when you record you should make sure that you never get any 'overs' which is when the recording reaches 0dB and goes in the red. When you record too loud on a digital recorder such as a PC it always distorts. It's better to record it softer so you don't get any distortion, and then afterwards put a compressor on it to make it louder again.

The first bassline is cool I think, it's a strange melody but it gets my head nodding Big Grin The other melodies are not always in tune with it, but I don't really mind since it's such a strange song.

Can you tell us some more about how you made this track? Do you use software or hardware? How did you record it?

Well, guys, I said that it was crap! ;-))

No realy, I don't have much tunes created, and I know that it is crap, but I keep practicing, as Airfull have said. :-)

"the drums sound very thin, it sounds like it's coming out of a GM module"
-Well, I have no idea what a GM module is, but I know that are very thin. That is what I constantly try to fix, but I can't find a way. No until this time (you said that I should use a compressor. I shall try), I guess.

"Can you tell us some more about how you made this track? Do you use software or hardware? How did you record it?" -I used FruityLoops 4 producer version to make it. No hardware was used. Ok, I used my computer ;-)))

Hmmm, it's got a breakbeat alright, and a bassline, but I wouldn't call this DnB man.

Drums are nicely sequenced as thechronic says, but sounds a bit too 909-ish for my taste. And the rest of the sounds Noo Did you use the standard sounds that come with Fruity? Certainly sounds that way...

But time and practice help Big Grin

Well, I have one question ... :

When I put "compress" in the Fruity Mixer module, on Master channel, it distorts the sound. Ok, I knew that that would happen.

But, when I put it on the drums, it changes the drums to something... ahm... bad? I mean, I doesn't add any power to the snare and the bass (kick), but it just changes the sound to something like "prolonged snare"... Hmm... I know that for the bass (kick) I should use Bass Boost, but I don't know anything to use for increasing the power of the snare.

The sounds are the basic Fruity, yes, with some variations and filters (delay and distorsion).

+ I never said that I'd stop working!! ;-)) relax, I will continue.

I downloaded that pack from that challenge you had for making tunes, and I'm juz working on new tune... Nice drums there are, but I want to ask if I can use those stuff in the zip file for making tunes(?), cause there are vocals and rythims that may be copyrighted, or something like that.

Thnx anyway, for your answers! :-)

Andrei

I don't know about the vocals, Chemik provided those, but the rest should be free to use.

About the compression. I think you have to set the attack a bit longer, than you have more punch in the snare I think.

I don't really know, I don't ever use compression (I know I should, but hey, I'm stuborn Big Grin )

But the melodies, well... Nope...
