I promised to have the uploads ready by today but there is a huge problem... I coded everything but when I tried to upload something I always got an error. I found out that my host has put a limit on the uploading, not allowing tracks that are bigger than 2MB
I sent the hosting company a 200-line email about the plans I have with this site, and he suggested to use FTP instead, but that is not an option for me. He promised me an answer by tomorrow.
If it's not possible I will have to move this site to a new host

well, i'm working on a java applet that would establish a "discreet" ftp connection to make the file transfer.
don't know if you're interested in helping me on the applet. (lot's of work)
so that user just has a "SELECT FILE" box ... the rest of the parameters are sent to the java applet by the php.
__ oooooo yeeeeeeeeeah.

FTP file transfers are no option for this site - I need the files to arrive via HTTP-POST, but maybe it's something for ZARk?
He's probably way ahead anyway, integrating FTP transfers with forms, would be cool

well, i'm also using http-forms with php for the moment ...
but it's a pain for several reasons :
1/ no easy progress detection
2/ no resuming
3/ php script time-outs
right now the only "progress indicator" the user gets is an animated gif that dissapears once the upload is complete.
so i'm thinking about using a php applet...
discussed it on undernet with a couple of other programmers, and they dislike the idea because it would stop people without java from using the upload ...
that's where i use two forms
There must be a way to detect JVM using javascript and to re-direct the user to a page or another ....
only one problem .. making the java ... i've only ever made c++.
Only decisions to make is to decide to use ftp (tcp) or ftp (udp) ...
I'll probably won't have time to make the applet though, as the little time i have to spare i need to finish my php scripts, and try debugging some major bugs in my apps ..
(right now, for some reason, one of my forms doesn't do "UPDATE" sql's ... dunno why ... guess i'll re-write it from scratch 'cos i can't find the bug

Wooww way to go ZARk
Script timeouts can be changed in php.ini, and I might be able to help you with the MySQL stuff, but no guarantees, I only use PHP and MySQL for a couple of months now
PM me your query and the MySQL-errors you're getting and I'll have a look.
The other stuff is way beyond me

about scripting and coding i don't know shit, but a lil hint for getting your files online under 5MB in a bigger quality
use oggdrop and convert your files to .ogg
way better encoding, your files are waay smaller for the same quality ...
i put it on my webspace so download here !

Sorry no oggs here for now, not standard enough at the moment. Maybe in the future when the format is accepted as a valid substitute for MP3.

how come not, it's pretty standard if you ask me
since it plays fine in winamp ... what most people seem to use to play mp3's.
well you're the master, so i'm gonna leave it there, but i don't really get it.
doesn't matter, i think you deserve a very
for this initiative

dude ... for the filenames .. ARGH
you know you can send the filename as a header ?
so just store the filename in the database ...
then do this
php: |
1:
|
header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=" . $myrow["MEDIA_FILENAME"]); |
|
easy peasy
your welcome
