yeah, specialy if you smoke in the same room, or have carpet floor.
in that case, once every months would be good, as the dirt block the vent flow for the cpu.

I got dust filters on my fans to keep most of the dust out. I have to clean the dust filters around once a month.
You should also clean your cpu fan sometimes, say twice a year or something. And vacuum out the dust

almost always I clean the surface that goes on top of the cpu and put a new layer of silver paste on it

yeah, nice one Cynik!! If you take the cpu fan out, make sure to add some new paste and to clean the old one ( light alcohol will do).
And this is the most fragile part on your motherboard, be gentle!

With most cpu coolers you can easily screw off the fan while leaving the metal fins on the cpu. The fan is attached with a cable to the motherboard, you can either leave it attached or unplug it. It's easier to clean the fan when you're holding it in your hands
When done just screw it back on and plug in the cable.
The cpu cooling fins can most easily be cleaned out with a vacuum cleaner, an air compressor or a can of compressed air. Running a piece of cardboard through the fins might work well too, but I never tried that.
Best leave the cooling fins on the processor. It can be tricky to fit it back and the cpu is fragile.

I don´t see the need to mess around with the cpu (dangerous for PC noobs!) right away. Unless your pc is really dusty on the inside, in which case I would advise anyone to clean the room more often and/or put the pc onto a cubboard or something as most dust is on the floor area).
Buy yourself a can of compressed air(€5), open your pc case (unplug everything ofcourse). Take it outside and use the can of air to clean the case. Nothing has to be removed, nothing will break. You´ll be surprised about the amount of dust and dirt that will come out of the case
. You could also "spray" air into the fan of your powersupply, but do it from the inside-->outside, I mean in the opposite way of the air stream that normally flows through the fan. that way the dust will be blown to the outside again.
A lot of dust inside the computer can be really bad for cooling and it can cause sparks that jump from one copperlane onto the other when the air get really humit because the dust will let electricity to pass through. I have seen this happen in a factory environment where PC´s tend to get extremely dirty on the inside. The pc might become unstable because of that.
