I know of a C64 sample CD. Sounds great.
Amiga and the likes used samples allready, so not really interesting (and they were 8 bit ones too).

Otherwise you could get hold of arcade game sounds by downloading games for MAME and ripping of the sounds. But they are also low quality (but then again, that can add a real nice feel to your track Big Grin )

i also rember finding on KvR a guy who made 2 vst's of the synths for a sega, one was an addition synth the other a FM synth. there's also a few sid station samples you can find kicking around that do atari, has a very distinct sound yuo cannot find anywhere else. and some vst's that try to do atari sound, but ultimatly crap.

I still have a C64, I lent it to a friend of mine who uses it for late night drunken C64 game sessions. It's great fun playing those old games Big Grin

I used to be able to program the hell out of that machine, so knocking up some kind of audio manipulation software to make a sample pack should be possible, but as always I don't have much time to spare. I also remember that the audio output was very very noisy.

Here you find Triforce

Triforce is a vst instrument that closely emulates the sounds of a classic nintendo entertainment system. there are only three wave types: square, triangle, and noise. there is also a simple arpeggiator for making classic 8-bit sounding tunes.

Here you find Toad

Toad is a drumkit based on the classic nintendo entertainment system. excellent quality percussive bits are here in abundance.version 1.1 adds a new graphical interface, and several performance enhancements.

Both on the excelent site freeaudioplugins.com
