i hate the term.......CLOWNSTEP!! it implies that the people into it are "clowns"! they are not (most of em. lol), they just mostly younger!
there is enough room in our scene for all types of dnb.
"clownstep" is just jump up fun, it at least gets young uns into the scene.......and thats what we need....constant stream of new blood.
i been listening and going out to dnb nights since 1995, and i seen all styles in clubs n raves, the shittest crowd responses are always from the super banging amen stuff (even tho i like a lot of that).
i dont like the super cheese that comes out, but the real jump up dancefloor stuff still can kick ass.
far too much hating goin on for me!
tune maturity comes with just that!!.........maturity!
all styles!

NOT AT ALL MATE. SOME TUNES CAN SOUND CHEESY BUT THAT IS A SMALL AMOUNT. JUMP UP IS WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE AND A LOT OF MAJOR CLUBS PLAY AND DANCE TO!

As long as music is good and worthy listening or it moves your body it shoulden't be any comments like "i don't listen that because it is Jump up" no matter what style ,you feel it - you like it ! you don't ? do not listen, simple as that ,there is no point to hate some one because like Jump up or whichever style ,it's not very professional.

thanks cynik. i will treasure it forever!

nah man, i like loads of styles. ya could call the classic urban takeover and true payaz tracks "clownstep" if ya wanted, but it would not be cool at all. even tho those tracks have the same vibe and feel as a lot of modern jump tracks.
to me, dnb has to touch a part of your soul, wether it be the cool part, the dark part or the fun part!
its still a relevent issue in our scene!

here we go again!?
you're wrong mate, it does not imply that people are clowns.
it's clownstep: step of the clown. it implies that people dance like clowns.
it's the most beautiful term of the drumnbass world, because it's the only one where a genre of music is named after the way the crowd dance on it.
now, it's doesn't make it the most beautiful music, but that's another debate.
and further, what cynik says.

the term comes from how people dance to it?
quote: |
Clownstep
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clownstep is a pejorative term used to describe a certain type of sound found in the electronic music genre drum and bass. The sound is typified as having a 'wobbly' bassline, simple beat structure and/or a large amount of swingbeats.
The name originated from producer Dylan. Dylan created the term as a description of Shimon & Andy C's single Bodyrock, due to its swingbeat sound that inspired an image of clowns dancing. The phrase was then popularised by Dylan on the drum & bass webforum Dogs On Acid. The phrase was censored by the site's moderators, appearing in posts as "*********", due to its derogatory usage. A "clownsteppa" smiley was spawned, and now appears in DNB-related forums worldwide. |
quote: |
To be fair, however, such a gripe is not altogether uncommon in the world of blogs and message boards (especially the fiercely critical and notoriously scathing DogsOnAcid forums), and it is altogether possible that the clownstep "crisis" lamented by many today is merely a rehash of the "ragga crisis" of a decade ago.
Ultimately, despite the muddiness of the term in many circles, and its persistent pejorative connotation, the sub-genre of clownstep seems to have a sound at least as distinctive and identifiable as that of Drumfunk, Neurofunk, or Hardstep.
Despite this, artists still chafe at the label. While Twisted Individual seems to have cheekily and rather ironically embraced the tag, others remain offended. On a 2003 radio broadcast, one member of Pendulum introduced one of their new tunes, exclaiming: "This isn't fucking clownstep!"
|
and anyways it was my opnion about jump, and i did support it by saying t's a sort of pop music, lots of people love it and would come up and use pianowire on me for spekaing out against it. but hey, if you like the britney spears of dnb, theat's cool too... i mean i know a lot of people like her also....there's no shame in that.

yup Dylan saw the crowd getting mad on Bodyrock and described them as clowns (which is true, dancefloor look a bit like clowns dancing), thus the music as clownstep.
typical of drumnbass by the way that you dance it and look like a clown. people jumping around, in all directions... nothing to do with the bagger style, of the house style, where everybody on a dancefloor can be doing the same moves.
whether it's pejorative, that's really a question of taste....

some quality opinions and info.
my basic beef with the term really, is when its used in a derogetory
form!
and as far as the tune bodyrock goes.........i think its total shite with steam and worms! imo
and on the "way people dance"............
i think dance moves to nearly ALL MUSIC look like complete foolishness,
wether you be moshing, clownsteppin, folding boxes to house and techno. STILL FUCKIN GREAT FUN THO, so i'm gonna enjoy it while i can because it gets harder as i get older and heavier

I ALWAYS CLOWN DANCE. by that definition. I like the wobble. onyl if the song is SUPER cheese, when it'slike peednulm and there trying to make a good jump up, i hate it. got no flavour, no character, no soul. it sounds perfect, but it loses so much because of it.
the cheesy clwonsteppa songds got flava.
