Hello there! I'm interested in some peculiar features one need to know when compiling a promotion demo cd. It's gonna be my first one and I'm not expecting something incredible to happen, just want to hear some professional critics.
I'm interested in: length, quality, quantity, content(should I filter the stuff for peculiar studio or not?) well any major fact that will help.
Got lots of info at the moment, but still, in order to be on the safe side.....
PS. Thanks in advance!

What are you showcasing, tracks or a mix??
Are you a DJ or a Producer??
It would be wise to have the best quality you can have for both individual tracks and a DJ set (this is obvious) aswell as a diverse range of tunes, without doubt as far as a mix goes you want to be grabbing the attention of the listener in the first few tunes, this is crucial often peeps turn off cd's after 3 -4 gradual mixes.
Again its clearly obvious to send tunes to a label that reflet the style, its no good sending soft liquid style tracks to Metalheadz or Barcode the same as its no good sending dark tech-step to a label that puts out the opposite.
I dont know but i think AIM is the way forward these days, i mean not many people listen to demo cd's considering the truck loads that arrive at labels on a daily basis.
You probably know whats expected of you and asking for the extra care is a good thing to do.
Still unsure wether you're making a demo cd of a Mix or of your own tracks?
hope that helps a little, other headz here know more on this one...

Not being rude, but that is expecting an aweful lot, 90% of the time you wont hear anything back at all.
The only thing I'd suggest is to send LOADS and not expect any reply, but at the same time, dont stop sending them

Thanks guys for feedback! I'm actually a producer. btw composing various styles of music - from ambient to dnb or shrance. But the material I want to send is atmospheric dnb and acid jazz, jungle, kind of chill out and downtempo.
One more questation: if I chose 3-4 tracks for demo, do I need to make them of full (I mean original) length or somehow shorten???
Like cut the best parts.
@Techdiff: yeah it's frustrating...

Hmm well if its 'atmospheric dnb and acid jazz, jungle' then there wont be a massive change in each track surely??
I mean if one track has a second drop the n it surely wont be very different from the first will it??
Overall i think you should send full length tunes.

Oh, believe me there will be!!! You can ask why? because I'm not the one who follows the rules or stick absolutely to experiments. The way I see music is a living being developing through the time of existance
That you'll never know what is gonna be the end or when it's gonna happen. And not always if it is a light positive tune, it's gonna end that way. In any case I try to make music to sound as much intelligent as possible and my aristocratic approach to composing proves that it really work.
still I'm not quite sure about
"I mean if one track has a second drop the n it surely wont be very different from the first will it??"
If you mean like the styles. Than I'm to say that to make vivid track is an essential for me too. E.G. oh, that's def. dnb or that's jazz fo sure...and so on
still really appreciate your opinion and feedback.
Tnx!!!
