hi folks,
i'm having trouble making good rolls, but i would like some in my new track. (made, not sampled) and i was thinking, maybe those motherfunkers of dnb.be know some nice roll-structures. so my question, is there anybody who can help me make some decent drumrolls and help me structurewise with them?

The reply above is your best bet, it works good. especialy if your want a good snare roll. You could try sampling from some stuff like, Smashing Pumpkins Cherub Rock, I heard it on the radio the other days right at the begining Snare roll roll snare x2...
If you dont have reason you could try lining up a row of snares and adjusting the velocity. think of how a live drummer would do it. Soft-hard

that reason tutorials about ten times more hard work than it needs to be.
sample a drum rioll/fill from an olde tune. (funk/soul/jazz/blues records are a good place to look
)
turn it into a rex file.
load the rex into an nn19. set up a matrix and re program the fill.
just dont be to blatant.

i would suggest using a program that will let u view the loop right beside the individual hits.find your fav loop(amen,firefight lemon d whatever)and map out what you believe to be the places where the snr kik fall.fine tune it till all the hits match up.then take out your loop and listen to the structure of the beat.save the midi files so you can pull it up netime u want.the biggest key to drum rolls are the tiny spaces between and the velocity of the hits.i hope this helps.it really will help to learn other drum phrases you like and knowing how they fall in place.
