a mate of mine told me showed me this in logic and its pretty cool.

drums on one channel. send to another bus. Stick a compressor on that with settings im sure can be found on the web. Low shelf eq cut and high shelf boost. send both to another channel so you can control the drums with one fader. I know it sounds like just layering two versions of the same loop but try it out, it sounded fat to me.

Anyone have any comments/experiece of this technique?

....better known as the nyc compression. cool trick for sure, but the fact is it's suited more to house and related stuff (lowshelf) so it makes the drums go into the sub bass section I'm otherwise not letting them into as I want a clean low for a pounding bass

edit: whoops just saw it's a low shelf cut. won't it raise shitloads of unwanted frequencies? I'd use different eq settings still, boost roughly where the kick is and a slight 10 khz

Yes, there was a thread somewhere here, here it is http://www.nuskoolbreaks.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=58598 , and it's a good trick, but don't use it too much. Smile

Its a good trick to get the basics for compressing drums down, and then u get ur own method from that. Well atleast I did. Its got some good pointers, but you will see the more u use that method that it wont let u do what u want with it all the time. Especially with amens, and really hardcore breaks.
