a mate of mine told me showed me this in logic and its pretty cool.
drums on one channel. send to another bus. Stick a compressor on that with settings im sure can be found on the web. Low shelf eq cut and high shelf boost. send both to another channel so you can control the drums with one fader. I know it sounds like just layering two versions of the same loop but try it out, it sounded fat to me.
Anyone have any comments/experiece of this technique?

Its a good trick to get the basics for compressing drums down, and then u get ur own method from that. Well atleast I did. Its got some good pointers, but you will see the more u use that method that it wont let u do what u want with it all the time. Especially with amens, and really hardcore breaks.
