Please check out my new track 'Broodlord (feat. The Devil on Bass Guitar)' and post your comments here!!!
Its been a while since I uploaded a proper tune. Heres something I've been working on the last couple days. Its not quite finished, but I thought it'd be worth sharing with you all. There isnt any real developement in this tune, its more meant as something to play live rather than something to be listened to carefully at home. Just something to break a few speakers.
Its pretty nasty sounds so dont expect some beautiful pads or anything, just dirt.
Really like to know what people think of this, also would like any advice on the mix since I only have set of monitors to reference through.
whoa.. heavy.. bit too much on the dark side for me but anyways..
intro was good.. got me in the mood for a heavy track, but then when it kicked off it just wasn't my thing, can understand alot of dnb fans luvin this tho...
Diggin it. You gotta use a tracker, if not that is some serious programming. I love it except for cynik said about a theme, but I guess in that style, u really dont need one. Sound is good, edits are fuggin crazy. Nice one!
Its true there isnt a real theme to this one, more of an impression I was trying to deliver. I've been watching MPD psycho loads recently (a 6 part series by miike takashi) and I was really taken by the style of it all. I wanted to write a tune which complimented the visual style, This was also the culmination of lots of sound making sessions. Most of the sounds are from reaktor, or from messing up my voice and guitar in Soundforge.
Definitely not everybody's taste, I'm more than used to that by now. (posting breakcore/gabber on a Drum n Bass website, its not gonna be to everyones liking) But its cool that people can still enjoy this on some aspect. Thats a real positive for me.
I think the lack of theme or structure comes from frustration. So many times Ive played sets where Ive agonised over the tunes I'm playing, yet it all goes by in a flash and the audience is totally unaware. I guess people want mindless heavyness over attempted complex thought provoking arrangements and themes.
Looking forwards to playing this live tho, should get people going for it.
Cheers for all the comments, like I said its been a while, dunno what people on here are listening to ATM.
dude, i could tell that had to be done using reaktor lol, i did get a sorta squarepusher vibe from it, and he uses reaktor a lot
Ill do a proper review another time, im tired now n i need sleep :p

Forgive my ignorance but whats a tracker? :p
A tracker is a type of sequencer. Normally pattern based and playing from top to bottom. Trackers use keyboard commands rather than mouse clicks. Theyre better suited for sample editing rather than midi since theyre often isnt a piano roll editor, notes are inputed by note number values. Look up renoise. Its a widely used tracker.
I don't use trackers though, just FL studio for sequencing and reaktor for sound design.
Ive been meaning to give trackers a try, but Im too used to my way of working to switch.
beuty intro,..draw's you right in,..mix/production is solid on my end,...got it all hittin dam hard in the best of way's,..this a full on edgy arrangment,..no breath,...lol,.. Full on Techdiff assult,..amazing work man,..allway's a treat,...cheers.
yeah nice intro ambience n sound fx... drops in nice n heavy... the drums are alright... the snare hit is abit short i feel... the basses are nice... and overall production quality sounds good.
maybe have some cymbals in the intro for the dj to use to time it up... cause it would be a good track to drop in mixes.
yeah I imagine a track like this has its place in the mix, its when youre hearing it alone (which this style is not intended for) leaves somewhat empty feeling after

Hmmm, this might be a good idea.
It would'nt be the intro that would make this hard to mix tho. More the fact that it alternates between a bar of 8 and a bar of 6 throughout the tune, effectively putting this one in 7/8. The ending is a straight up 7/8 except it misses a bar near the finish, not exactly DJ friendly.
Still I think putting a clearer rythm in the intro would be a good idea, for those who wanna try n mix this.

WRITING / ARRANGEMENT : 9/10
intro works, like reverb on metalic sounds. Maybe add a pad at the drop or some deep sub bass patterns/more depth on the drop. I hear Japanese, I feel at home.
PRODUCTION QUALITY : 9/10
Drumz are very clear!!!!! Like some of the bass stabs.
ENJOYMENT : 9/10
I have a friend that spins this kind of tracks at our parties, if you give us a copy of the finished track I will be sure to get it to him so he can drop it. Cheers.
Cheers for the review nick. Definately up for sending you a finished version, you have an e mail address I could send it to? I'll send you a wav or at the very least a higher quality MP3.
I definately should fiddle with the drop some. As I mentioned already, this was a tune to play live so I didnt really bother with giving it much of a drop, just something to mix into, I only gave it an intro fro posterities sake, but yeah, I'll definately tweak the intro around to make it more DJ friendly. I like the idea of some bass buildup. Not sure about pads tho, doesnt seem like that sort of tune.
Its kinda an odd one. I find this easy to dance to, but I guess Im used to the timing. Because it works as a bar of eight and a bar of 6 this rounds to 14 beats per bar or 7/8 which, if your doing the half time step to, you'll find yourself nodding on the beat one bar and lifting your head on the beat for the next bar which could prolly be pretty disorientating (slightly intentional) So I totally agree, not really a groove in the typical sense of the word.
@Baz, 'sup dude. Long time no hear, whats going on R.E. april?
