Respect the Breaks present : Fast soul

Line up :

Alix Perez ( UK, Shogun / Bassbin / Creative Source ) :

North London based DJ/Producer Alix Perez is undoubtedly one of the up coming talents in the Drum and Bass scene, having gained several established releases on Labels such as Liquid V, Horizons Music, Progress, Fokuz Recordings and Touchin Down.
Currently receiving Bookings in Europe, across the UK and a bar residency at the legendary Drum and Bass night "Movement", he is definitely gaining strong exposure within the scene. Alix's tracks have been getting important support worldwide across the club scene, repeated plays on BBC's 1xtra including daytime playlisting.
2006 sees Alix hosting his weekly radio show on London's pirate Origin Fm showcasing a fresh selection of Drum and Bass, including guest shows. Alongside future releases on Progress, Horizons Music, Brigand and more, Look out for collaborations with artists such as Sabre, Jenna G, Redeyes and more as well as forthcoming remixes.

his partner in crime :

Sabre ( UK, Shogun / Bassbin / Critical ) :

Hailing from Holloway, North London, Sabre is a young DJ/Producer who like many, began his quest on pirate and later on internet radio, alongside playing at parties and small nightclubs. As a Producer he'd already enjoyed releases with Jerona Fruits and Research Recordings before his first batch of offerings on Emcee Recordings with the tracks such as "Carefree", "Gift You Gave" and "Things and Riches".
After being brought up in the Seychelles, Sabre moved to the UK in 1989 and was instantly awed at the vastness of the musical landscape.
'Up until I was 8 all my experiences of music were either of Calypso, Michael Jackson or the 70's rock and funk CDs my dad owned. Some of my dads stuff was pretty cool actually, but it certainly wasn't shut up and dance....wasn't till I moved to the UK that DJ/Club culture came into my life, and more importantly hip-hop'
By the age of 12 the love of hip-hop had been taken to the turntables, but already a mild interest in dance music was brewing, and within a few months of discovering jungle, Sabre had switched genres and was now focusing all his efforts on the rave scene. 3 - 4 years down the line and the inevitable experimentation with music production had begun, with artists like Jonny L, Ed Rush & Optical, Kemal and Teebee all providing a major influence, but never forgetting his roots the influence of people like Premier, Diamond D, The Beatminerz and DJ Muggs was also a heavy presence.
Hours of being locked in the studio finally started to pay off as Sabre began to find his own sound; this process in many ways aided by the degree in music production the he'd enrolled in (and eventually dropped out of!). Early productions to receive interest were mostly the product of the Intimidation Collective (ITMBig Grin TM), a collaborative project with long-time friend and musician Maxwell Golden. 2001/2002 saw the most productive spell, with the duo releasing an EP themselves, and being commissioned to do remix work for Relentless subsidiary, Outcaste recordings.
Back to the present, And the young Londoner has big plans to get himself involved in as many parts of the scene as possible, the most recent excursion being into the world of promotion with the launch of 'London Zu' in November 2004 ,housed at the legendary La Scala venue in Kings X. Pirate Listeners can catch Sabre in DJ mode on his weekly Rude FM residency every Sunday night spinning plates from across the globe backed with plenty of fresh goodies from the man himselfs studio.
Alongside future releases though various labels including Emcee, Scientific Wax, Jerona Fruits and Darkestral, 2006 sees Sabres return to collaborative projects after a long spell of solo work. Look out for Sabre tracks alongside Andy Skopes, Alix Pirez, Psylence, Breakage, Jubei, Eddy Woo, plus much more from the recently formed, 'Do the Math' Collective.

Easy ( BE, Orka ) & Wontime ( BE, R!ot Squad )

Biography Easy :

Easy (27) started out as a classically trained guitarist entering music academy at the age of 10. After a period of predominantly blues-oriented electric guitar playing he got into electronic music around 1995. Greatly influenced by such labels as French F Communications he started deejaying himself by 1997, evolving from Detroit techno into soulful underground deep house. He met Sike at school and they began producing electronic music, experimenting in different genres at first but then moving steadily in the dnb direction. After a while they started playing out together which led to Easy giving up house music and fully concentrating on drum and bass by the end of 2000. In 2001, Easy joined the breakz.be team and helped create and run the first and largest Belgian dnb community website worthy of the name. After the breakz adventure he teamed up with Woodcarver and Sike in the Orka collective. Together they have been responsable for some of the finest liquid dnb parties Belgium has seen to date. With resident UK artists dj Jubei and SP MC alongside an impressive array of international guests, they have been instrumental in pushing forward the soulful side of dnb in Belgium. Easy graduated as an Audio Engineer from SAE college in 2004, and has been developing his own sound ever since. Collaborations include the Disarm project with Marcas, and, more recently, teaming up with dj Wontime. As a dj, Easy is known for his smooth, soulful and harmonically solid sets, and is building somewhat of a reputation for himself around Belgium. He has performed at venues such as Silo, Petrol, MOD and Tour & Taxis, alongside artists of the likes of Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Artificial Intelligence, DKay & Dj Flight. Radio appearances include Stubru's Switch, Jungle Fever and Fmbssl. The name Harmonix is meant to represent the soulful, musical side of dnb, and some of the smoother solo stuff that's heading your way soon...

Biography Wontime :

Originally part of the Riot Squad Soundsystem, and very active onto Radio Scorpio in Leuven, Wontime was (and is) one of the first deejays mixing up Drum'n Bass and Jungle in Belgium since 1994.Pioneer and talented, he is now in the top five of the Belgian leading Drum'n Bass deejays, and took part of almost all major Drum'n Bass events and festivals. His mix blends as well DnB classics as all the new branches bouncing from all continents ... with a strong public response.
