State Of Mind, a duo consisting of Patrick Hawkins and Stu Maxwell formed in 2002. In late 2004, Q Project and Spinback, better known as Total Science, were introduced to the State Of Mind sound. Blown away by the strength of the music they heard, the Oxford legends instantly sought to work with the talented duo, signing them for a series of 12’s.
Notoriously prolific producers, the State of Mind lads have gone on to release through a broad spectrum of labels since that chance encounter in 2004. Material can be found on the shelves via Total Science's CIA Recordings, Teebee's Subtitles Records, Friction's Shogun Audio, Futurebound’s Viper label, Doc Scott’s 31 Records, Concord Dawn’s Uprising imprint, Bad Company, Obsessions, and more. There are of course more works soon to be released!
Moreover the debut full length album Take Control is finally available with in NZ through Uprising Records. It is soon to be released in Australia. For those overseas it can be ordered from http://www.smokecds.com
Tracks from the lads are currently on high rotate in the sets of Concord Dawn, Black Sun Empire, Doc Scott, Bulletproof, The Upbeats, Klute, Teebee & Calyx, Ed Rush & Optical, DJ Friction, Total Science, Psidream, Phace, Noisia, Chris SU and SKC, Jade, DJ Craze, Hype, Dieselboy and many more.
State Of Mind also host the 95BFM drum n bass show 'Next Level' (Saturday 9-11pm NZ time, online at www.95bfm.com) bi-weekly (with DJ Presha handling the other weeks).
Their success both abroad and in NZ has been recognized recently, where the State of Mind lads were awarded the title of B-Net Breakthrough Artists 2006, an award decided by public voting.

STYKZ (Nightscapes)
This nightscapes resident can take a little bit more! Started in the summer of 2003, Stykz got really soon the freewheelin' flow of the drum&bass. Hours and hours of hard work, constant innovation and checking out all possible records, put him on the flow. Known as a DJ with a very personal touch, and as a member of the nightscapes crew, Stykz had the opportunity to spin at many gigs with dj’s such as SKC (Uk), DJ Probe (Uk), Fu & Amnesia (Uk), Young Ax (Ger), Cativo (Ger), Ace & S-Capade (Ger), Nymfo (Nl), Adi-J (Nl), D-Monica (Nl) and lots more.. After a performance at the StuBru studio, we all had the same conclusion! This dj, already big in limburg, wants to check out the rest of the country!

NITROUS (Off!ce, Disrythmia)
It all started for me in the beginning of this millenium. Studying in Leuven got me in touch Spastik, one of the leading figures behind radio scorpio, Belgiuns only alternative radio station. He showed me many different new styles of music and encouraged me to go out and search for the music that is my own, and to do something more with it… That music was and still is the jungle sound!! Along with an old manually controlled technics, one Gemini 500 and a 4th hand mixer. Shangri-Lynx , Imvamex & myself locked ourselves in with a stack of records and founded OFF!CE. For months and months we pretty much spent all our time either buying, playing or listening to dnb and jungle…and when spring came OFF!CE went public with the first party: ‘you’re a freak’. The years ’04 and ‘05 were when shit really kicked of : not only as promoters, throwing parties every 3 months, but also as a dj collective. Like that off!ce got invited to play at a Badmood.net party in Lisbon, Portugal, I played at one of the REACTIV events in Amsterdam as well as many different events in Belgium like Mekitburn, Wasted, Boups NYE, Silo. When it comes to what style I spin it’s pretty much anything with the right vibe, ranging from old skoolio rave stuff, through jungle to drumnbass, seasoned with some scratching and big dick tricks…I’m not so much into the whole labeling of subgenres, if the tune sounds right it just has to be played!

I-WITNESS (Distraxion, Disrythmia)
I started spinning in 2002 as DJ AMbush. I co-organized some parties in Glabbeek (Bunker : Drum in the basement) and Leuven (Rumba : Wasted) in 2003 and also spinned at the last one (my first descent gig). In the same year I won a dj-contest in Aartselaar. The next year I got in touch with more d&b-freaks in Leuven and on the internet. I also began to play at more parties (Assault, Wasted, etc), radioshows (recorded set at Stubru Switch, Scorpio, etc) and contests. Also in ‘04 I started my own party with a friend, called DISTRAXION. In 2005, Sicko (Payback) and me organised some monthly free parties in Gent, called D-FENCE. In ’05 and ’06 I managed to play at more gigs, including three in the Netherlands (NYE '05-'06 in Groningen, may '06 in Rotterdam and november '06 in Breda).

SEQ (Breakheat)
seQ is well-known in the Belgian drum&bass community as the photographer and reviewer from his own website http://www.seq.be .
Since a few years, he’s been dj’ing too, mostly in TheZoo in Hasselt. Influenced by Bad Company's Book of the Bad, Stakka&Skynet's
Clockwork and Ed Rush & Optical's Wormhole LP the mood was set! His musical preference is not restricted to one subgenre but
his sets are characterised by a nice flow, going from funky rollers, to techy steppers or even some dark amens.

MC V
Mc V has been on the DnB circuit for years, performing across Western and Eastern Europe. He started Mc’ing UK sides at the age of 17 in 1992 when DnB was still underground. V’s never really hit the main-stream to become a DnB all star, although he’s Mc’d with just about every famous DnB DJ there is out there in his 14 years of holding a mic in one hand (the list is too long, believe). V’s Mc’d in plenty of venues from The End Club in London’s West End to the Trinity Club in Bristol, from Moscow’s B-2 club to the World of Drum & Bass extravaganza at St Pete’s legendary ice-rink stadium with a huge crowd of 30,000 with headliners including SS, Hype, Aphrodite, Goldie, Ronie Size, Calibre, Pendulum & Andy C, tearing things up with Mc Verse & Lowqui. Sure fly, gigs don’t get much bigger than that but V’s all about keeping it real & doing it for the love of music, the enjoyment of performing and about giving the crowd something live…and on that note V carries on to bring his relaxed, definitely UK underground style to the Belgian DnB crowds who have been looking for some fresha flavor.
