Please check out my new track 'Falling Inside (dubstep-ish)' and post your comments here!
First tune I've uploaded here in over 4 months - and it isn't even dnb. BattleDrone had a listen earlier and described it as 'fast dubstep' which is pretty accurate I guess. (It is 160bpm but the beat actually has a time signature of 80bpm).
This has all my usual ingredients - lots of edits and details, female vocals, big melodic vibes, builds-up and drop downs - the usual shite.
Btw, if you listen closely during the first part of the tune you'll notice a voice sample saying 'you' - that's Ketz! (Thanks mate.)
Anyway, I'd love to know what you make of this. Hate, slate or rate. In particular, I'd like to know whether I've got the bass frequencies right and whether the intro is long enough before it drops into the main beat.
Cheers ladies.

ez Tomos! wow all the "oldies" are coming outta the woodwork n posting tunes up - great stuff! lol
beat is wicked man! reminds me of massive attack for some reason (so i mean that as a big compliment - like a harder version of their stuff - boh!)
i recognise the female vocal - did Shin use it in a tune of his? or a collab with you? ooh no wait i think i heard it in that rock n bass tune u made! (ps why didn't u post that up? loved it!)
superb melodies as always, lovely man it all flows seamlessly - has always been your strong point
damn man - i need an mp3 of this!! u just keep going from strength to strength - ur there mate!!
i'm really trying to find somethin to construcive here but tbh the points u mention (bass freq etc) all sounds spot on to me - so no complaints on the technical side of things! pure quality
i can hear this having a big commercial appeal - needs to be on the radio if u ask me (we're not talking crissy cris we're talking chris moyles
)
easily the best non dnb tune on this site - hands down
ps thanks for using my vocal in there (although i still can't hear it - too lost in those enticing melodies hehe)
3rd listen...

Really nothing more i can say about this.
Nothing i'd change at all
well actually, on second listen there is some arrangment things i might change.
there are the raw warping basses in the beginning and then it gets a bit more melodic and mellow towards the end
I'd do this the other way round. Stat melodic then bring the raw sounds in and let it rip
But that just more about taste really. This really is a fucking great tune. Wouldn't sound too out of place on a massive attack LP. (appart from perhaps the vocals)
*maybe on Third listen.*
I'd make the vocal a bit drier, take some verb off it.
Just so it sounds more personal and upfront. Like she is singing just to the listener if you know what i mean

i had to stop playing it after 3 listens as the jealousy inside me was brewing too deeply
totally flabergasted at how good this is!!!
well done Tomos!!!!
I have to agree with all the gents above... This is fuckin' superb. The good thing about the lowered tempo is that it leaves a lot of room for emotion and melody, " strong points in a Tomos tune. Wicked shit!

Even tho I love it, it sounds more like tech downtempo to me, or I guess the new faster sound of the new dub coming out of Cali and such (Babylon Sound Sytem, OSC, etc.). Good sounds, sounds great. You gotta give me a tip on how to get vocals to fall so into the mix like that
Either way cool shit, love it
sick production
atmoz is nice
sick bass, spor experimental style
tomos is gettin pro
that vocal is awesome
where do you find such vocals
really pro man,
compare it with grand labels
heavy
club ready
Yeah it definately has that Tomos quality stamped all over it. Great use of that vocal. Bass / Melodies and atmospherics are very good. Mixdown is professional sounding and this is, as folks above have said, easily releasable.
The one issue I have with the track is that, as Battledrone said, it's like speedy dubstep. I would love to hear this cut back to that 135-140 bpm dubstep tempo. I really think you could push the atmospherics / reverb tails etc a bit more at that tempo and produce something with even more groove than this has now.
Not a crit of anything production wise or musically though cos overall, this is quality
I like it, sounds like quality work. The only suggestion would be to add some melodic texture to the part before and specially after the vocals (after 1.45), some smooth, distant pad chords maybe would fit in there.
What a load of shit!!!!!!!lololololol
But seriously.........................
This is one of the best tunes (musically speaking) i have heard for a long time mate,
You are turning into a very skilled song writer and producer mate,
i have to agree with jimmy,it sounds very massive attack ish but tbh i reckon it is
so much better!the melody and bass are well crafted, the vocal is fuckin fantastic
and sits so well in the mix,the beats are well eq'd and the edits are fantastic!
i cannot find anything to criticize at all mate its top notch
you should deffinately send this tune to some big dj's/labels as i reckon they
would be biting your hand off to release this mate!
high quality work mate
you are a very accomplished song writer mate and this deserves to get signed
This track is the bees knees Sir Tomos of Badass
I've listened to it about 10 times now and it just keeps getting better, do you accept paypal or c.o.d
Seriously though this track deserves to be in my crate as well as everyone elses crates, this track would end a set with a bang and leave people wanting more!
I just want to pound vajayjays to this track
, its that good

Oops, I forgot to mention where the vocals come from. They're actually from a tune that comes with FL. Yeah, I used them on a previous tune too. I'm acutally still trying to tweak that tune, I just can't get it to sound how I want it to sound yet.

Listen closely at 0.25, 0.28, 0.46 and 0.49.
(They do need to be louder tho I reckon. I'll turn them up).

It's actually a pretty random process for me. I have a decent wad of vocal samples which I run through whenever I think a tune needs some vocals (ok, so that's every tune for me, but whatever
). I suppose the 'secret' is knowing what sounds right and what doesn't. That just comes from listening to tonnes of different kinds of music and gradually learning what kind of vibes go well together.

Like I said, these vocals were from FL. The other vocals I use in my other tunes come from doing basic searches for vocal samples on Google. Nothing fancy. I use quite a lot from Breakbeat Paradise.

Either is fine with me bro, although I do accept payment in the form of hash ounces, porn mags (preferably 'unused' copies) and video's of Sian Lloyd presenting the weather.
