Hi!

I am busy with a track (remix). So far all is well, i've got a nice rollin' beat that is somewhat electro-ish. I've made the first break now, but when the beat drops, it is still the same beat. How can i fatten this beat up after the break? I could throw in another beat-loop underneath me thinks, but i think the complete will sound just too much.. any suggestions??

I use Fruity Loops and i am quite a newbie when it comes to producing...

put some ghosts in there to keep it rolling,

as for processing: compress, distort ( i use Antares Tube here), or use PSP Vintage Warmer, it does exactley what it says so...

Tnx! I've been fiddeling with compress + distort + a bit of reverb, sounds better indeed. 'Ghosts' are those really low-volume snares in between the beats, right (sorry, me == newbie)?? I am quite in need of some more plugins for Fruity Loops.. care to point me in the right direction? That Vintage Warmer sounds promising...

Yup, it's all (well, at least a lot) about layering!
And you're quite right about the ghosts. They are less loud and mostly shorter and EQed a bit defferent (a bit less mid, or a bit less hi end). You can also experiment with ghost kicks and hats or rides, or whatever you come up with

you might also try to layer your beat after the break with another, somewhat different, kickdrum. If you keep the volume of this one pretty low, your original kick just sounds fatter

You could also go for a completely different drumline after the drop

This place is alright, but you could probably find a better one. These are not your hard ass plugins mainly though, but should keep you rolling:

I'm a fan of congas...but they have to be done good like in bios fear (the clockwork remix ep one...never remember but it's some combination of kemal, skynet and stakka...ft. some combination of those three...remixed by some combination of those three. of something.)

also like surya said about changing the beat. I love it was fast hectic hi hats come in.....1/16ths and maybe 1/32nd if you do it right....add some modulation....

Reverb!!! Depending on what you're after either introduce the reverb in the drop or take it away to make the drums pop out.

A good short room or plate should do the trick, but don't swamp it ofcoz Big Grin
