at work I use a bookmark to connect to the forum:
http://www.drumnbass.be/forum/index.php
but recently I've been getting this message:

I can access the homepage and only through there I can go to a specific forum by choosing "skip to forum" in the lower right corner
but when I click to http://www.drumnbass.be/forum/index.php the above error appears

The server has become a bit shaky lately. It used to have like 10 months uptime without ever crashing, but lately it is going down at least once a week... It has been down for nearly a whole day even in mid january.
I think we will need a new server very soon.
The one we're using now was already an old one when I started renting it, and it has been running non stop for 2 and a half years now. It is a PIII 1GHz mind, I'm actually glad it has been holding out this long.

Not uncommon for linux servers, they are very stable 
I remember doing a manual restart for some reason and pitying the fact that I was breaking its 10 month uptime.
But now it's all different, even making the daily backup seems to be too stressful for the poor machine...

Gone down while I was working on it!!
There are no messages in the logs, it just goes down suddenly. I do think it has something to do with a hardware failure. Perhaps it is overheating...

If it goes down again tonight I will temporarily move the site to the server I use for my company websites.
Unfortunately I have to drastically limit the size and bandwidth if I do that, so I'll probably have to disable track downloads and sample pack downloads...
I'm going to start to backup all 40GB of tracks to my local PC now.

I will try to keep it up but can't promise anything. I will make a back up for sure.
The big danger is that the databases might get corrupted if the server freezes, I want to avoid that at all costs.
I'd rather have the site down for a couple of weeks and retain an integral copy of the forum than risk to lose everything.
In the meanwhile I'll try to gather cash together for a new server. In 6-8 weeks I could probably raise enough cash for it.

If its gonna cost that much to get a new server. It might be worth asking for contrebutions from producers on the site. I think for so many people its a really important thing to be able to use the forums etc, and I'm sure that some people would gladly donate money to keep everything working better. And presumably a better server would allow other features to the site like a radio player or something.
I'll quite happily send some money to keep things working better as I find it frustrating when I cant log-in. Admitadly it wouldnt be much since Im constantly brassic, but I sure as hell wouldnt mind. The other option is to see if people can contribute bits and bobs for a new server. I dont really know about compatability, but Ive loads of bits of computer lying around, cases, HD's, ram etc. I could always send some of it over if it'd help out at all.
Either way, I think its only fair, seeing as so many people use this site yet youre the only one who pays for it, plus all the extra maintanance your doing and the mastering for track of the month. It'd be cool to be able to help lighten the load.
