i know with lowering the tone about 40%, but leaving the tempo, you get somewhere, but not even near.

You need two inputs for that. There's a "how to" on the www.propellerheads.se website

horns and halos vocals are superdark.
i also like the vocals in 7 angels with 7 plagues , not much (nearly nothing) fx´s but still genius.
counterstrike - bad energy - grand vocals !!!

most deathmetal vocals are 'growled' or 'roared' as opposed to 'sung' and maybe only use reverb or maybe a harmonizer or pitchshifter or something to sound the way they do...

i know a lot of harcore an' metalbands an i must say throatvocals (that's what they call the roaring) really don't have fx on em most of the time
only with famous bands that shit is added afterwards but even then ...live shows get sung by throat

Actually, if you downloaded my track 'I love my country (Macedonia)' the first vocal is my recorded one with pitch down, a bit distorsion and delays... lotsa...

A really cool effect for vocals is found in the Hyperprism Arboretum FX package, its a pretty old collection of plugins but thet sound amazing.
For the evol intent style vocals you need a frequecy shifter, not a pitch shifter. Im not entirely sure what its doing or what its actually for, but sounds bad ass. I think its some kind of pitched chorus effect crossed with a comb filter. But you can get very similar sounds to the vocals in Horns n Halos with it. Another nice effect is to load the sample into a granular sampler and piss around with the pitch or speed independently.
One other thing thats worth having a look at is the acoustic mirror feature in sound forge. It does very odd things.
My only gripe is that messing around so much with vocals can meen that it ends up completely undesiferable to the listener. If youve got a really cool vocal sample then dont do too much to it as it will carry itself.
I think youd be suprised at how much processing is done to some metal vocalists these days. Even live. Its easy to route the vocal channel through some nice vocal effects in a live desk.
Even simple stuff can atribute to a vocal sounding roaring. Using a really shit or inappropriate mic, or even just letting it peak on the input. But singers being the pre-madonas that they are, probably arent told about the amount of processing actually used on the vocals. The engineer and producer probably keep it to themselves in order to save themselves from a vocalist hissie fit.

Help !
Ok now i got your attention .
Do you know some vst that can determine the bpm of a vocal , or is that unexistant ?
Cause its so hard to stick long vocals on a beat (theres always some kind of tolerance)
