This is probably quite easily done (or at least it sounds it), how is this bass created? I know there's some lfo in there but how is the basic sound made?

Sounds like a block wave layered with a sine wave one octave down, and a LPF with varying resonance and envelope attack time.
Does that help you or am I talking chinese?

Squares with distortion on them.
Use a simple generator (3Xosc will do if you're on Fruity) split it in lo-end and hi-end (split at 100Hz). The lo-end should be mono and compressed.
The hi-end can be a bit stereo (add stereo in the 3Xosc) and needs distortion (Camelphat3 would do a good job) compression (see Camelphat) and a little bit of reverb. Experiment with the distortion for desired effect.

Thank you both...
@ Thechronic - It's not all chinese, I guess a block wave is a square wave?? And LPF = low pass filter? got that bit. I think I could work out how to vary the resonance and attack time. Is this done with LFOs? How much variation on the attack are we talking?
@ BattleDrone - Im using Reason so would a similar method be using 2 square waves, one high, one low (octaves)? or am I way off?!
Cheers

Yes, block wave and square wave are two names for the same thing, it's mainly this that gives this bass its characteristic sound.
The resonance and attack time are varied with automation. Put an automation parameter on the resonance and the attack time of the LPF (or assign knobs to them for more real time fun
).

I've worked out the automation but I can't get that dark sound or make the bass sound powerful. Is there a secret to making a dark sounding bass?!

Thanks for your help Pusha. It has made it sound better, but I still can't get that dark feel. It sounds too "rough" and not "smooth", if you know what I mean?? Any ideas?
