well i'm about 2 buy cubase 5....and i'm new to producing music...any tips about producing darkstep would be fine....if u can link me 2 any great videos dat would b fine. thanx for the replys.....
I think you need to start with the basics, rather than buying Cubase you could use Reaper which is free and start making some decent drums and reeces first.
All the info you need has been posted over and over again, on this site.
There is no real "follow the instructions" procedure to producing darkstep (or any other type of music)... You can find guidelines, but it does take a lot of experimenting to figure it all out and to find your own sound.
Now if you would ask a real specific question it would be answerable, but "how do I make darkstep?" is a bit too general I guess.

hey, reverb gives the illusion of sound being in different places; e.g. it can simulate a sound being played in a hall, an arena, or even in a box. I can't really explain it in words, but reverb gives a 'tail' to a sound. (yes I know it sounds retarded)
As for distortion, I'm not really able to explain that one ...
Distortion can improve sounds but too much can make them fuzzy and crap, it can make sounds rougher or give them a 'warm' feel.
There is a type of distortion called 'Overdrive' which guitarists sometimes use; they pass the sounds from their guitar into an effect pedal/amplifier and then overload the output signal. (Input = sound going in [from a guitar in this instance], Output = sound exiting; what you hear)
use your mind, imagination man!, get some dark ambience sounds, make some fast drums.
for the drums use the sickest snares you can find to really make somebody's ear get blown to eargasmness.
and voice samples, get some freaky stuff.
and for really dark stuff, use some hardcore kicks now and than.
but don't make those drums as fast as your other drums though, take for example : counterstrike - Blackness.
making music is a confusing mess! i would advise to stay way from it and go play volleyball or somethin.
na, j/k.
i would get my hands on as much different software as possible and experiment with everything you can point and click at. and you must read read read help and documentation about the software your using.
you tube is full of tutorials also.
good luck bro. stick with it even though it can be frustrating.
