The site was down for 16 hours starting from 18:15 CET yesterday.

I was doing a complete backbone software upgrade on the server. When I installed the latest version of the GD graphics library I started getting errors all over the place. Complaints about missing libraries that were present on the system, which IMO should not happen. Reverting to the previous version of GD did not solve it.
I was unable to compile Apache which is responsible for displaying web pages. I spent hours trying to find a solution, recompiling almost everything that is on the server, but to no avail. I ended up asking the nice support people of DirectAdmin for help.

When I woke up this morning (thanks to the wake up call from Battledrone Big Grin

) I got an email from them with a solution and I was able to recompile Apache and do the updates I wanted to do.

Big up to the DirectAdmin support team for their friendly help Big Grin

I will have to do a couple of recompiles to get the APC accelerator back up but I'll wait until tomorrow so everybody can get their post fix for 24 hours before I mess it up again Big Grin
