Nice one Lee, didn't realise that you could do that with Audacity - may give it a go!
Also on a separate issue but related to recording audio from dvds, i played a dvd on my laptop, opened Cubase and tried to record the audio, but instead of recording what was playing in the dvd player it recorded bloody audio thru the mic!! ie me typing and the damn TV in the background!! strange as on my old PC i could record audio thru Cubase no probs (but that was run thru a separate mixer as well) so i suppose until i get an extermal mixer hooked up i'm going to have to wait patiently before sampling any dvds... whats most annoying is i can do this on my old pc which has a dvd drive but i haven't got a dvd decoder for it so they don't play grrr!

That's the problem I was telling you about with new laptops and vista !
It's automatically setup so the built in mic is the internal audio channel.
You have to disable it and activate the internal mixer channel as the audio recording device to get audio samplers and internal spectrum analyzers to work properly.
Ok if you using a laptop then no doubt your internal soundcard will be a realtek which tbh I thought the version on XP was better but still shit !
Ok you have to go into control panel > sounds > recording.
Disable the microphone and there should be another device in there it's called mezcla estereo on my laptop as well it's partially in Spanish still - I'm presuming it's called stereo mixer in english.
You have to activate that as your default device for internal sampling !
That should be about it I hope if not let me know !
It was ages ago I changed the settings and if I remember correctly I had to do something else first as the stereo mixer channel was hidden.
Nice one Senty - i still use my mic now and again for webcam conversations tho
but i can swtich back and forth depending on my needs i suppose - u know i think best i just sort the decoder for my dvd in the old pc as i record my stuff thru the mic on there as well, use it as a sampling room nowadays
i just record straight into ableton.
i used to use soundforge for this process,
but seeing as im going to be chopping things up in live,
i just record straight into it.
