DEMOCRAZY & AFTER 12 join forces for another dubstep party.
This time we are back at our previous location the "Minus One" in Ghent, with a fresh new line up.

Joker is a twenty-year-old programmer/producer from Bristol, UK. currently producing some of the freshest, most innovative Grime instrumentals on the scene, but equally embraced by the Dubstep world, he mixes influences from Dr Dre-style G-Funk and video game chip music as well as UK bass styles .

Jakes is many things to many people, to some he is the voice of TC’s smash hits ‘Deep’, ‘Drink’ and ‘Mindkiller’, to others he is the Daddy of Bristolian Dubstep crew H.E.N.C.H and to musical historians he is one of the most interesting vocalists that underground British music can lay claim to.

The man the dubstep scene has come to know simply as Martyn has been a drum & bass DJ in his native Holland for more than a decade (he even recently collaborated with Mancunian D&B king Marcus Intalex). Deykers grew up in Eindhoven, but eventually settled in Rotterdam (his record label, 3024, is named after his old zip code there), and his fingerprints are all over the Red Zone D&B club nights that were held throughout the country.
Martyn’s recent slew of 12-inch singles take dubstep into the wilderness far outside London, often crossing over with the likes of Flying Lotus, who gave his “Natural Selection” an icy cool-down mix, and taking on more danceable, ethereal qualities (rather than dubstep’s typically dark and foreboding sensibilities) on “Twenty Four” and “Vancouver.” “All I Have Is Memories” features haunting piano chords drifting in and out of a groove
of pulsating two-step beat and layers of disembodied vocals, while "Velvet” spaces out with ringing, over-processed jazz-organ chords and snare hits that keep the blood flowing.
Dividing his time between DJ gigs in Europe and producing music at home in the DC suburbs(he recently made the move to the U.S. and is awaiting citizenship papers after marrying his American wife), Martyn frequently maintains a blog, a forum for news on his releases and his strong opinions, such as his dismay over Burial revealing his identity. He’s consistently outspoken about the idea of dubstep spreading beyond its South London roots, and is pleased to see artists outside of the U.K. taking the genre into their own hands.
“That’s only good for the sound because everyone just brings their own influences to the table as well,” he states. “That makes the music even more exciting than it already was.” To that effect, he’s doing what he can to make dubstep his own by blending in plenty of hip-hop and four-to-the-floor sounds on his upcoming album. “It’s going to be a mixture of sounds and we’ll see where it ends up,” Deykers says. “I’m not sure myself.”

*Tempa, Hotflush, Wonderland*

South Londoner Luke Envoy’s reputation on the turntables has earned him residencies at dubstep institutions FWD and Hench alongside regular appearances on the equally heralded Rinse FM and at a variety of European destinations from Fabric in London to Athens, Amsterdam and San Francisco.
His productions include the devastating tech sounds of ‘Gamma’ and ‘Honour Kill’ with their overt hardcore and jungle references, through to tricky edit-laden explorations like ‘Trapdoor’, a collaboration with Bristol’s Headhunter and the esoteric global influences of the vocal tinged ‘So’, his recent debut for the inimitable Tempa Records.
With remixes and future collaborations with the likes of Headhunter, Jakes and Loefah and a debut artist album in the pipeline alongside
worldwide touring, 2009 looks to cement Luke’s arrival.

*Blu Saphir Recs, Digital Blus*

Engulfed by music since he was a young child, DJ Rome immediately began learning various types of instruments including guitar, drums and piano. But the times took a drastic turn upon the discovery of drum 'n bass as he made his way through school in 1995. After meeting schoolmate, DJ Mark-E, DJ Rome began to experiment with production techniques while being guided by his mentor. It wasn't much time before meeting Alex Crack and G-Smoke, who would later combine with DJ Rome to form System Killaz. System Killaz soon earned themselves a regular timeslot on local FM station, RadioX, and in 2001, the three released their first tune, Checkout on Santorin's sister label, S-Limited, with Young Ax's Sunrise on the flip. Always gaining new contacts while DJing from place to place, DJ Rome got in touch with Twintone after hearing his praises from a local DJ, Thomas L. The two immediately got to work on I Try, which would later become the AA side to the first release on his label, Blu Saphir Recordings. Blu Saphir has had a lot of success since its genesis in 2005, and having released three twelves in the same year, the label has gotten major support from many well-known artists as well as the worldwide drum 'n bass collective. Among the label's list of recruits are Kaleb, Muffler, Contour, ESS and Bungle, Chino, Submorphics and many new names like The Ego, DJ Roots, IllEsha, Peyo, Cloud9, Camila Andrate, Henree, Enei and Random Movement for 2008. In 2007 he teamed up with Labelowner/Producer & DJ Mad Vibes from Frankfurt/Germany and produced several track which has been released on "The Collabo EP" on Sidechain Music feat. the artists Stunna & Mechanic. Especially "Pretty Girls" had a good support on BBC 1Xtra.

BREKBIT *Lost In Music, Drumderground*

The youngsters may not know this guy but BREKBIT was there when Jungle/Drum’n’Bass was first heard in our country. This Brussels based dj has been involved in the scene for ages… from the first Drum’n’Bass free parties to the big raves, Brekbit has seen them all! He was involved in the Drum’n’Bass section of “Switch” on Studio Brussel and had his own show on FM Brussel, “Lost In Music”.
“LOST IN MUSIC” is also the name of the shop he opened in the centre of Brussels. Here you can find a wide selection of fine electronic music (loads of Drum’n’Bass and Dubstep!), Funk, Soul, HipHop, Rock, Reggae and more. New and second hand. Check it out folks!!!
Nowadays Brekbit is member of the DRUMDERGROUND crew. This collective of dj’s, producers and promoters operates in Brussels and organises parties at the famous Fuse club, where Brekbit already promoted his ”Bass Boogie” nights some years ago.

JUICE BLENDER *Mystic, Liquid Flavaz*

Ghent based dj Nico Juice Blender is spinning records for more than 13 years. Starting as an “eclectic” dj he discovered the sounds of LTJ Bukem and Photek back in 1996. From then on he started spinning mainly Drum’n’Bass. You also can find this eclectic approach in Nico’s Drum’n’Bass sets, his selection is variated from soulful to the harder work, classics to the freshest productions. As a promoter he’s one of the main persons behind the MYSTIC nights in Ghent. This long going concept brings deep, future-thinking and cutting-edge music to the masses. He also is involved in the drum’n’bass radio show LIQUID FLAVAZ on student radio Urgent.fm and works as a promoter for DEMOCRAZY.

Because he set the dancefloor on fire at the first edition of Drummatic, we are very pleased D-Convict accepted our invitation to play on this third edition!
“This DJ has the power to put his heart and soul into a set, hyping up crowds with driving bass and often unexpected but delightful twists to his selections. Infusing the best of DNB from all eras with tasters of Funk, Rave and Hiphop, this artist's love of music and good times is infectious."

LOWRAIN *Drummatic, CherryMoon*

Flattered by music since she was a child, Lorena Isola LOWRAIN began learning various types of instruments including piano, percussion and bass guitar at a young age. First identified with drum & bass sounds, was in 1998 when she took her first steps in the underground scene in Buenos Aires, Argentina helping to develop the city's genre community. After two years performing in different locals venues she decided to step out the dj scene to become part of the crew of one of the main radio stations PLUR FM dedicated to promote the national and international electronic scene in the country. They where also responsible for the first MEGA RAVES attracting more the 12.000 visitors in the city of Buenos Aires. After a while, she started organizing different events which included performances of the most talented dj s, producers and electronic musicians of the country related with Drum’n’Bass, Trip Hop,Hip Hop, Dubstep between others. Deeply inspired by artists like LTJ Bukem, Future Engineers, Photek, Omni Trio to mention few, she flowed during this years from the Intelligent sound of Drum’n’Bass to the Jazzstep, Liquid Funk and a bit Tech Step, but she preferred to defined her style as “lady friendly”! Right now she runs the venue “Cherry Moon” together with her husband Rudy Pince and she is responsible with Fudge and Mikis of the Drum and Bass Suite DRUMMATIC at her venue where she is also resident.
“Let's just say I’m totally artistic. I’ve been a ballerina when I was young, few instruments on my account...1 year in acting school,1 year visual arts…, dj, ..artistic producer, …still busy with architecture and the rest is secret. I m not a model, I’m a tool haha”

*Backlash, Whisper Audio, Metalheadz, Function,...*

Outrage (formerly known as DJ Rage) has been closely following drum and bass for over a decade. His first break came at the age of 15 when he gained a slot on Bedfords (UK) pirate radio station Shock FM. It was not long after the broadcast that his vigorous sets began gracing the Bedford area dance floors, catching the attention of fans and future collaborators alike. Outrage would form his first major alliance at the age of 16 when he crossed paths and teamed up with Stomp & Weaver which resulted in his initial production efforts, with the collaborations Check the Flava and Deep in 2 Depth. The affiliation with Stomp & Weaver also helped his career with additional performances, thanks to the inception of two featured club nights hosted by them: Sugar Cubes in Lincoln and Fantasy Island in Skegness. By the age of 18 Outrage's career as a DJ began to flourish. His radio audience extended when he gained a spot on Perception FM, the largest pirate radio station in the Bedfordshire area. His audience continued to grow over the course of the following year when he began hosting a show on London's prestigious Rinse FM and started playing at various events in central Europe, alongside other UK artists. It was also at this time that Stomp had relocated to London and the two began working in the studio; resulting in the duos first major release - Snakes - on L Doubles Flex Records. Soon after Outrage made contact with promoters in New York and Philadelphia booking him for such renowned American drum and bass parties as Direct Drive, Mathematics, and Drink Land.
The year 2000 brought Outrage his most influential alliance yet, when he united with Tronic (now known as Amit) . The two went straight to the studio and over the following two years released tunes featured on such labels as Nu Urban and Chemical Warfare. These successful releases resulted in the pair meeting Digital, the vanguard of dub-influenced drum n bass; further enhancing their production knowledge and skill with his guidance. It was not long after that Outrage was releasing his own solo efforts on such drum and bass labels as L Plates, Fuze, Basement Records, Proper Talent, Intasound, Inneractive Music and the almighty Metalheadz. He has showcased his talent at such festivals as the famous Berlin Loveparade and Hungary's Sziget Festival. Debuting his live PA skills at Amsterdam's Ichione Subversive Renaissance in April 2005, Outrage has also crossed over into the category of a live performer. The notorious emotional atmosphere that is created by his fluxes of diligent breakbeats and fervent bass lines can be heard in his Ableton Live PA.
In 2007 Backlash Records, Outrage his own label, was launched. This label is focused on bringing forth experimental beats to breathe a newfound life into the electronic music scene. Backlash Records embraces the musical taboo and encourages like-minded artists to free themselves from the constraints the music industry has placed on the producer. Since day one Outrage has been a purveyor of abstract music, providing a unique perspective upon dancefloor music. Honing his skills on labels such as Metalheadz, Inneractive, Intasound, Commercial Suicide, and L Plates, he now chooses to continue pushing sounds which explore the depths of the human imagination by encouraging other producers to pursue their own artist endeavors.
With a sturdy past and forthcoming catalogue from some of the greatest free-thinkers in electronic music, this label will be one that caters to a panoramic audience, not as customers, but as listeners. Look for the label to cross cultural boundaries as well as the ever-present generation gap by employing the music as art, and not a consumer product. The first release comes from the owner himself: “Creeper / The End Is Our Beginning”.
Also launched in 2007 is be Whisper Audio. Whisper Audio was founded in 2006 after drum and bass producers Outrage and Aperture were graced with the vocal presence of siren enchantress Kirsty Hawkshaw. The collaboration was the genesis of a unique hybrid of cutting edge beats and bass, developed orchestration, and ethereal vocal arrangement...a new sound was born. Building upon shared knowledge and individual perspective of the music industry, the three decided to join forces. Their sole pursuit is the development and recognition of experimental music with emphasis on vocal integration. Whisper Audio 001 “Love Like Blood/Sunbathing” will be released February 25th.

*Architecture, Scientific Wax*

Shaun Bateman aka Nolige. Hailing from Wolverhampton has been listening to Drum & Bass/Jungle since 1991. It was from going round his cousins every Sunday, where he first heard Drum & Bass. From there on he knew he wanted to be a part of it one day. After some years of listening to tape packs, he then decided in 1998 to take things a little more serious, and started buying vinyl. Shortly after, he then decided to buy a pair of decks. After learning how to mix and gaining more confidence, in 2003 he had his first DJ gig at a local club in his home town, and then had his very own show on local pirate radio station 'District Fm', which he held for 3 years. It was around 2001 where he began to get on the production side of things and try to learn as much as he could. It wasn't until 2005 when he had his first break with a couple of tunes, 'Innersense' on Bassbin Recordings, and his first Collaboration with long time friend Skitty, with 'Babylon Dub' on Architecture. Since then, he has been on various other labels and continues to push his sound and release more music on Scientific Wax, Cylon Music, Backlash Recordings, 13 Music, and his and Skitty's label, which will be coming soon in 2008, so keep your ears to the ground!

Initially, Amit’s interests were seeded in computer programming, however, on being introduced to the sequencing package MasterSound, things took a different turn.

Realising his passion and talent for music, Amit embarked on an HND in Music Technology, learning the processes involved in music production and experimenting with a myriad of different sounds from dub/ reggae to electro and punk rock. Upon leaving the protective gates of academia behind, he began to save up money for his first piece of equipment: The Akai S1000.

Amit’s interest in Drum & Bass developed through his love of Belgium hardcore, highlighted by producers such as Joey Beltram and Frank Dewulf. It was the late 80’s and early 90’s and things were changing; there was a new sound emerging: speeded up hip hop breaks - Drum & Bass. Listening to the sounds of Source Direct, Photek and Goldie all helped to anchor Amit’s D&B journey.

For the next few years, he continued crafting his sound and developing his vision. With influences from the lush Hindi soundscores of Naushad, haunting vocals of Muhammad Rafi, Mukesh & Egypts Om Khaltoum, to The Cure, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Radiohead and African Bombaataa, Amit’s unique sound was born. Described as ‘facist tribal dub with a warm eastern/gothic twist’ Amit’s big break came when he sent a track titled ‘Erasure’ to Digital which received a positive response from DJ Storm, Klute and various underground DJs. He was introduced to Klute and his label Commercial Suicide and it was there that he found the home for his future releases, headed by a team that understood and supported his vision.

2003 saw his first release on the label, ‘Dual Sense/ Roots’ and that’s when things started gaining momentum. His sound was new, different, and beautifully unnerving. Half tempo building, remnants of D&B and dark tribal energy make Amit´s music hard to categorise and the only real way it can be explained is by listening. And that´s what people did, until eventually it started landing in all the right DJ- stacks. Randall started dropping his tracks into his sets, Grooverider and Bailey playing the tracks on BBC’s Radio 1 and 1Xtra, even the legendary John Peel (RIP) selected it for his show. After hearing Amit’s track during a Klute set, Goldie offered to release his next 12” on his infamous Metalheadz label and in 2004, Amit released the hypnotic ‘Gatecrasher/Pirates’ on Metalheadz. 2006 saw the release of his debut lp “Never Ending” on Klute’s Commercial Suicide label.

In contrast to most other D&B artists, Amit had spent little time in DJing, preferring to concentrate on the production. All that changed when he decided to play his first ever live show at ‘Redzone’, Holland, sharing the bill with Goldie to a crowd of 1600! The set went down a storm. As well as DJing and producing, Amit also teaches Music Technology and mentors new artists from disadvantaged backgrounds, sharing his musical knowledge and experience.

Jim Muir also known as Heist & Strider, has been a DJ for eleven whole years now. It has been his number one love from day one, to be involved in the music industry in some way. He knew from such an early age that he wanted to be playing the music in the clubs, rather than dancing to it. "For me been a DJ is my going out and having a good time". Heist has played at many top events here in the U.K. like Champion Sounds, Epidemik events, Venom as well as DJ slots in USA & Europe. Heist has had slots on radio stations, one been on 88.2 Rude FM for two years, before leaving to concentrate on the production side of things. Heist now has been producing tunes for ceveral years. He started his own record label Co-Lab Recordings back in 2002 with his friend Benny. First 12 " release was 'Company 7' and 'Salsa Jive' which sold out. The second release also followed on with great success & things are going from strength to strength. Not just his own label is Jim releasing quality tunes, but he also goes under the name Strider. Strider was quickly picked up by one of the hottest producer teams about, Dillinja and Lemon D's Beatz imprint. Jim mentions " They in fact put out my second record ever, I am now signed exclusively as strider to the Valve Camp". Also Jim released on Media Recordings, with good mate La Roque, Grid, Horizons and Play:Musik showing his different styles of drum'n’bass production. In 2005 Heist got signed to the Metalheadz camp. His first release was his contribution to the “Winter of content” LP with the “Nature Of The Sith” track. His solo release followed in 2006 : METH069 “What Once Was / Metal Slug”.

A devoted follower of techno-influenced drum & bass, Silent Witness adds a new edge & attitude, combining elements of the deep & uplifting within his tear-out dance floor productions.

First surfacing as Brainiac on breakbeat label Stratosphere Recordings, his powerful sound soon caught the attentions of many including The Plump DJ’s who included ‘Neuro’ (2001), his acid-tinged debut, on their Urban Underground (INCredible) mix and Sony Music who licensed the track for the soundtrack to the video game Wipeout Fusion (Sony Playstation 2).

Infamous producer and No U Turn Records boss, Nico picked up on Brainiac and unearthed a budding drum & bass producer. He quickly signed ‘Contact’ to No U Turn in 2002 and released two more singles; ‘Higher Rates’ and ‘Invasion’ (both collaborations with partner in crime Break) in quick succession.
Working under a different guise, Silent Witness quickly established himself as a musical tour de force, finding favour with a host of top flight DJ’s, labels and audiences across the world.

With releases on Commercial Suicide, DSCi4, Metalheadz, Subtitles, Obscene, Critical, Quarantine and DNAudio; the label he established with co-conspirator Squire in 2003, Silent Witness has a strong platform to push his uniquely devastating sound to an even wider audience.

Never one to stick to a genre, Silent Witness has recently started engineering for Spilt Coffee, a London based House outfit whose recent debut ‘Heavy Shoulders’ has received widespread acclaim. Other projects include a house single forthcoming on Glasgow based Soma Records’ imprint, Darkroom Dubs.

Few would argue that Hungary, one of the smallest of the former communist countries in Eastern Europe has been put on the map of drum’n’bass by SKC [30] amongst others. After becoming a classical music fan and training himself to play the piano during his teenage years, SKC was converted to electronic music by a live experience: a party in 1998 with Ed Rush in the main slot where SKC was sucked in by a mysterious Wormhole… …and when he appeared again he was ready to make his own drum’n’bass beats.
He had his first notable releases on Trace’s DSCI4 imprint, some of which got rinsed by many of the elite players all over the globe. Since then, having got in touch with some of the biggest names in the scene, his tunes have been enjoying support from the likes of Klute, Concord Dawn, Ed Rush, BSE, Pendulum, Flight, Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Digital, Spirit, Matrix, Marky, Dieselboy, Andy C and so on. Representing his own and his fellow Hungarian producers’ sound all over Europe in the last few years, he’s played in the UK, Holland, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, Ukraine, Germany, Austria, Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and now for the first time in Belgium. As his classical training suggests, SKC tries to inject some musical elements into d’n’b both in the studio and behind the decks, but he doesn’t mind the odd dancefloor anthem either. Like a rollercoaster ride, his sets cover the whole spectrum of this varied genre from the dubby sounds and rollers through the big smashers and vocal hits to the minimalistic techno vibes.
Apart from his collabs with Chris.su and his solo projects, he’s also involved in the TACTILE collective [Chris.su, Skc, Safair, Longman and Bratwa]. Tactile has appeared on Timeless, Commercial Suicide, Inneractive and Function among other labels.
In the next couple of months, watch out for SKC on Hospital, Critical Recordings and Commercial Suicide.

Our Belgian guest comes from the Stardust camp. This guy likes to make mixes with music to watch girls by, he's one of the driving forces behind the Emphasize parties and:
“A Contradiction-set can be described as a mix with Quality tunes, new ones as well as classics from time to time, fast and long mixes and steady build-up. His neverending search for combos sometimes makes him pull his hair out but makes him stand out of the others...”
