Repetitiveness

stino
I agree on song structure

if only that is repetitive, you're on the right track i guess. structure is something everybody copies.

bout drops, yeah I think that is one of the main things where you can see if a producer is creative or just sells out.

some people just can't change their style , like bignameproducers, they got a brandname and people expect to hear this kind of thing when they hear that name. it's just the way it is.

some young bands or producers might switch styles entirely, but that's just inherent to young people.

I think switching gear now and then makes your sound evolve and keeps your stuff fresh, although you are still the same person making the same music you always did. someone using fruityloops who switches to reason will eventualy end up with something very different but yet the same.

or just buying a sample cd! simple stuff like that

face it, everything has been done before

there's nothing left to say any more.

now you can ask for it by name.

i want a Chemical Brothers sound, with a Aphex Twin feel, and a Pendullum bassline.

Sorry, a bit late joining in on this one, but there is a couple things I want to say.
First,I agree witht the point that if you make a track which doesnt conform to the un written rules of DnB, then the chances are that a lot of people will not appreciate it. However as Ive said before, It is the unwillingness of some poeple to accept anything a bit different or to experiment that is gonna mean the death of DnB. At this rate all tunes are goona sound the same and drop the same. Already nearly everbody uses 180 bpm because that is the standard, Fucking live a little and crawl out of the comfort zone that is forced upon you.
The other problem is the anal sub classification of DnB. If your track doesnt sound exactly like everything else, it becomes Liquid or Jump up or Brakecore or IDM or DrillnBass or some other stupid name. If its got big bass and fast, energetic drums then its DnB, nothing else.. If people were more willing to experiment, listen to more music and accept something slightly different then the standards and repetitivity would be no more.

One thing seems to have been overlooked when it comes to structure!

Don't forget about the dj's!!

without repetitive structure how would they be able to mix our material?

If we all choose to go awol on our structures would probably spell the death of the 'ride'

and I think its important to remind ourselves that the dj's got this all off the ground to begin with.

So we need to bear this is mind! Also without the right structures and the djs to mix, our material wouldnt get the 'radio airplay' / club promotion it depends on to survive.

We'll all end up making tunes for couch potatoes with i-pods!!
